Elevat<strong>in</strong>g VOICES OF CHILDREN<br />
Influenc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the future<br />
Save the Children cont<strong>in</strong>ued to advocate,<br />
communicate and campaign on all the key <strong>child</strong><br />
rights issues <strong>in</strong> 2016. <strong>We</strong> <strong>in</strong>novate and develop<br />
evidence directly from our programm<strong>in</strong>g activities,<br />
and then persuade others to adopt what we have<br />
proven and/or fund us to take it to scale.<br />

<strong>in</strong>equality is<br />
an urgent need<br />
Advocacy and Campaigns are central<br />
to secur<strong>in</strong>g last<strong>in</strong>g change <strong>in</strong> <strong>child</strong>ren's<br />
lives and <strong>in</strong>tegral to our Theory of<br />
Change – ‘Be the Voice, Build partnerships,<br />
Be the <strong>in</strong>novator, Achieve results at scale’.<br />
Save the Children advocates for better<br />
practices and policies to fulfil Children's<br />
Rights and to ensure that Children's voices,<br />
especially the most vulnerable, are heard at<br />
the global, national and local levels.<br />
The public’s awareness of the issues<br />
affect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>child</strong>ren is an essential part of<br />
driv<strong>in</strong>g effective advocacy and campaigns.<br />
The level of this awareness depends on Save<br />
the Children – and our partners, coalitions<br />
and ambassadors – hav<strong>in</strong>g a strong<br />
media presence. Our impactful campaigns<br />
and strong media presence with clear,<br />
coherent and consistent messag<strong>in</strong>g enable<br />
us to <strong>in</strong>fluence key stakeholders on issues<br />
affect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>child</strong>ren.<br />
Action/2015<br />
Action/2015 is a grow<strong>in</strong>g global movement<br />
made up of thousands of organisations<br />
call<strong>in</strong>g for concrete actions and ambitious<br />
agreements for people and the planet by the<br />
end of 2015. In India, Wada Na Todo Abhiyan<br />
(WNTA) with strong support from Save the<br />
Children India has been lead<strong>in</strong>g the process<br />
of develop<strong>in</strong>g consensus from civil society<br />
and communities, around their aspirations<br />
from the new development agenda.<br />
Action/2015 launched <strong>in</strong> the month<br />
of January <strong>in</strong> 15 states and 150 districts.<br />
Children presented demands to various<br />
governors, chief m<strong>in</strong>isters, deputy chief<br />
m<strong>in</strong>isters, deputy commissioners, state<br />
m<strong>in</strong>isters, members of state legislative<br />
councils and legislative assemblies, district<br />
magistrates and state officials, and members<br />
of political parties. After the launch, a<br />
month long series of <strong>in</strong>terventions- May<br />
Mobilisation, momentum around the<br />
International Youth Day and F<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
for Development, the Indian coalition was<br />
gear<strong>in</strong>g up for one of the biggest and most<br />
significant mobilisations of the year around<br />
the UNGA <strong>in</strong> September with the Global<br />
Day of action be<strong>in</strong>g observed on the 24th of<br />
September.<br />
After the successful execution of our<br />
mobilisations around FFD and International<br />
Youth Day, the Action/2015 coord<strong>in</strong>ators<br />
organised a coalition meet<strong>in</strong>g with more<br />
than 40 members who regularly contribute<br />
to the work of Action/2015 <strong>in</strong> India. A draft<br />
plan was proposed and after a series of<br />
discussions a f<strong>in</strong>al plan was created and<br />
shared amongst all.<br />
Month long onl<strong>in</strong>e and offl<strong>in</strong>e<br />
mobilisations took place. With the objective<br />
to highlight the major issues to the<br />
government and capture their attention,<br />
#LightTheWay campaign was launched.<br />
Through this campaign, we brought out<br />
issues be<strong>in</strong>g faced by the marg<strong>in</strong>alised. Issues<br />
rang<strong>in</strong>g from clean water, sanitation, poor<br />
civic <strong>in</strong>frastructure and discrim<strong>in</strong>ation were<br />
<strong>see</strong>n be<strong>in</strong>g shared from various regions.<br />
Hours before PM Narendra Modi, along<br />
with other world leaders, adopted the<br />
new Global Goals at the UN Susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />
Development Summit <strong>in</strong> New York, Save the<br />
Children organised the Light the Way event<br />
at the historic Purana Qila <strong>in</strong> New Delhi.<br />
There were laser shows, electrify<strong>in</strong>g dance<br />
performances and a performance by Raghu<br />
Dixit Project as thousands cheered the PM,<br />
urg<strong>in</strong>g him to set ambitious Global Goals<br />
for the betterment of the most marg<strong>in</strong>alised<br />
<strong>child</strong>ren and their families.<br />
This was a support and solidarity driven<br />
campaign which encouraged <strong>in</strong>dividuals<br />
to congregate at a historically significant<br />
location while hold<strong>in</strong>g sources of light<br />
(Candles, earthen pots etc.) to show their<br />
support and hope from the Global Goals. In<br />
order to unite and celebrate the oncom<strong>in</strong>g<br />
of the Global Goals, we organised events<br />
across multiple locations on the same day.<br />
These were cultural events <strong>in</strong>terspersed with<br />
speeches/talks through which <strong>in</strong>formation<br />
