COMING UP
As well as updating the look of the magazine, we’ve also made
a few other changes. Movement will now be published twice
per year rather than once per term, and we’ve added more
pages so that we can bring you an even bigger variety of
features. We’re still committed to great, student-led content,
and we hope that you’ll enjoy what we’ve got lined up for this
and future issues.
This issue focuses on the Bible. Lots of people struggle with
how to approach reading the Bible - it’s a complex and varied
set of texts which can often feel quite intimidating. Throughout
this issue, our writers focus on various aspects of the Bible,
from what it is like to read the entire book in a year to sharing
their favourite verses.
Finally, this is my final issue of Movement as Editor, as my four
years on General Council have sadly now come to an end. I
hope you’ve enjoyed the recent issues and are, like me, looking
forward to what the future holds. If you have any ideas for
future content, or would like to contribute, then we’d love to

Movement is published by the Student
Christian Movement (SCM) and is distributed

Churches and affiliated chaplaincies.
SCM is a student-led movement inspired by
Jesus to act for justice and show God’s love in
the world. As a community we come together
to pray, worship and explore faith in an open
and non-judgemental environment.

SCM GATHERING

SCM Glasgow is looking forward
to welcoming students and recent
graduates to the SCM Gathering
at Wellington Church this October!
Join us for a weekend of community
building and reflection, with bible
study, workshops and time for
worshipping together.
Our guest speaker is the Bishop
of Manchester, David Walker, who
will be joining us on Saturday. His
subject will be: ‘Young, Gifted and
Christian: What makes churchgoing
work for 20 somethings?’
There will also be time to relax with
a ceilidh on the Saturday evening
and time to explore Glasgow.

Project Bonhoeffer, our partners in
the Faith in Action project, will be
holding a day conference looking at
migration and the issues faced by
refugees. Guest speakers will include
Esther Reed, Associate Professor
of Theology at the University of
Exeter, and a member of Pax Christi
International. Tickets are just £5 and
a travel bursary is available for SCM
members.
SCM GATHERING
10-12 MARCH 17,
MANCHESTER
Join students and recent graduates
for our gathering in Manchester
this spring. We’ll be joined by guest
speaker Fr Timothy Radcliffe O.P., a
Catholic priest, theologian, and the
Consulter for the Pontifical Council
of Justice and Peace, who will be
speaking about vocation.
There will also be space for prayer
and worship, workshops and time to
explore Manchester.
