STORY
In August 2016 SchoolCare were asked by Brockhurst Infant School
to provide a plan to help federate the ICT systems for Brockhurst
Infant and Brockhurst Junior Schools as from the new September
2016 Term they are due to be come Brockhurst Primary School.

number of years and Brockhurst Junior School was supported by

THE CUSTOMER
Brockhurst Infant and Junior School are schools based in Gosport,
Hampshire with a combined student base of around 320 pupils. From
September 2016 both schools are amalgamating to become Brockhurst
Primary School.
THE CHALLENGE
SchoolCare have been working with Brockhurst Infant School for
a number of years, providing ICT systems and services support.
Brockhurst Junior School have been receiving support from a third
party.
As part of the amalgamaon process both schools required a
consolidated ICT plaorm a llowing staff and students to acces s
services from either site.
The sites are situated relavely close to one a nother, however they
are based in a high density residenal area, something which pose d
a challenge for a number of technology opons.
Both sites were also connected to the Hampshire HSPN2 service
(required for access to Hampshire Hosted Services), however the
capacity of these links was too low causing slowness for users. As
part of the project both school’s required access to a high speed
broadband connecon.
To allow staff and students to work across both sites using mobil e
devices, a consolidated wireless network soluon was required t o
ensure that both sites have access to the same network.
THE SOLUTION
SchoolCare has a long history delivering ICT soluons to schools
from industry leading “best of breed” vendors.
The first challenge for SchoolCare to tackle wa s providing a reliable
link between the two sites. As part of the planning service a number
of opons were considered. The opons included Ethernet Acces s
Direct (EAD), and WiFi. EAD was discounted due to the recurring
costs as the schools were looking for a soluon with an inia l
capital outlay.
Due to the density of wireless networks the surrounding residena l
area, the use of standard WiFi Point to Point links was discounted due
to interference, as were licensed WiFi links, due to comparavely
low bandwidth even in the 802.11ac standard.
To link the sites SchoolCare have
supplied and installed a Siklu
60Ghz millimeter wave wireless
soluo n. This link allows 1Gbps
Full Duplex operaon between th e
sites. The high frequency resolves
both the interference issue and
the bandwidth issue apparent with
5Ghz links.
As part of the install, SchoolCare
have provided a high speed fully
filtered internet connecon usin g
their own Broadband4 product
as well as a new server, custom
Acve Directory deployment an d
full site wireless coverage using
our in house Cloud Hosted Wireless
plaorm, powered by Ruckus
Networks.
THE RESULTS
Both sites now benefit from a
unified network, allowing student s
and staff to login at either site. Th e
WiFi network is extended across
both sites, allowing seamless
roaming of devices.
Brockhurst Primary school
now benefit from a high spee d
broadband internet connecon ,
which is fully protected by
Lightspeed Systems filtering.
A new server with high speed
storage securely backed up by
SchoolCare’s MyCloud Backup
plaorm allows both sites t o
securely and quickly access their
stored data.
The whole deployment is supported
by SchoolCare’s ProFlex ICT Support
service.
