Possibly inadvisably, ‘flesh’ is our theme for this issue. I was<br />
going to start by saying that <strong>Brighton</strong> is a fleshier place than<br />
most but that, of course, would be ridiculous. <strong>Brighton</strong> is, per<br />
capita, no more or less fleshy than any other city in the world<br />
- or indeed habitat - where sentient beings dwell.<br />
Flesh is the very thing that we all have in common, us beings.<br />
You cut us, we bleed (or ooze something similar). We all come<br />
into the world as bags of flesh, guts and bone, and we all go out that way too. Ashes to<br />
ashes, funk to funky, and all that.<br />
It’s what we choose to do with our bodies, and those of others, in between that sets us<br />
apart. And this is where <strong>Brighton</strong> is, perhaps, a city more at home in its skin than others,<br />
to which the people in these pages stand testament.<br />
But delicate readers beware. We’ve spent the month poking about in the city’s fleshier<br />
parts, so you’ll find many of the folks hereafter unseasonably unrobed. Au naturel,<br />
barebacked, as nature intended. And, whilst I’m far too buttoned up to join them, feel<br />
free to strip off, kick back and enjoy their exploits in the buff. Unless you’re reading<br />
this on the bus.<br />
