Solar Library<br />

Overcoming irregular electricity supply, a Solar Library<br />

was set up in the village Govt. School. 1100 books,<br />

gathered by NSS DTU members, during “The Joy of<br />

Giving Week”, by organizing a donation drive in DTU<br />

campus, were thus made available to the kids in the<br />

village through the camp.<br />

Survey and Meeting Bureaucracy<br />

An extensive survey was conducted in order to gather<br />

necessary data about the villagers which could<br />

further be utilised for availment of Govt. schemes and<br />

benefits. The insights were discussed in sessions with<br />

Mr. Amit Kishore, District Magistrate and Mr. Sanjeev<br />

Tyagi, Superintendent of Police, Rampur.<br />

Other activities of NSS DTU included the Adolescent Awareness Campaign in which sessions on “Menstrual<br />

Health” were conducted throughout the year about hygiene and health related risks. They also kickstarted their<br />

new project Recycle Today, in collaboration with NGO Jagruti with the motto “Go Green, It’s Our Dream” in<br />

August 2016. NSS-DTU will recycle old lab files, notes and notebooks and use the funds to buy stationery items<br />

for underprivileged children.<br />

Volunteering for NGOs which represent causes you<br />

believe in, provides you with an opportunity to give back<br />

to the society, and make a difference to the lives of the<br />

less fortunate. It also gives you a chance to meet a new<br />

people and develop new skills.<br />

A number of NGOs representing a plethora of causes welcome volunteers from around the country.<br />

1. Udaan aims to provides affordable and intensive one-to-one rehabilitation and training to children and<br />

adults with moderate to severe disabilities.<br />

2. Honour aims to prevent the use of drugs by the youth by creating awareness about their menace, as well<br />

as to support the recovery of addicts in partnership with rehabilitation centers, psychiatrists and social<br />

workers.<br />

3. Pratham works towards the provision of quality education to the less privileged.<br />

4. Smile Foundation aims to empower underprivileged children, youth and women through relevant<br />

education and innovative healthcare.<br />

5. Deepalaya work alongside the economically and socially deprived, the physically and mentally challenged<br />

so that they become educated, skilled and self-reliant.<br />

6. CARE India aims to fight poverty and social exclusion by facilitating empowerment of women and girls<br />

from poor and marginalized communities.<br />

7. Greenpeace focuses its campaigning on a variety of issues such as climate change, deforestation, genetic<br />

engineering and pollution.<br />

8. Teach for India gives the youth an opportunity to lend their skills by serving as teachers for the less<br />

privileged, aiming to solve the problem of educational inequity.<br />

9. Helpage India India aims to work for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons and to improve<br />

their quality of life.<br />
