Ÿ Outdoor education equipment installed for<br />

students at the Pope Francis Centre<br />

Ÿ Partnership with Niagara Peninsula<br />

Conservation Authority confirmed for the<br />

Niagara Catholic Outdoor Educational Program<br />

Ÿ Farm to Table: Partnership developed with<br />

local food growers where students seed, plant,<br />

maintain and cultivate fresh fruits and<br />

vegetables<br />

Ÿ Food Processing: Students worked beside<br />

industry leaders and processed thousands of<br />

litres of locally grown tomato sauce, as well as<br />

preserved fruits and vegetables. Product was<br />

shared with local agencies serving those less<br />

fortunate – ultimately many Niagara Catholic<br />

students<br />

Ÿ Cooking with Kids, Elementary Program:<br />

Students spend a day with certified chefs<br />

preparing fresh local foods. Literacy and<br />

numeracy activities are incorporated along<br />

with healthy eating ingredients. Focus on<br />

simplicity of eating healthy and how to achieve<br />

Ÿ Garden Planting Boxes, Pope Francis Centre:<br />

Students planted and maintained 12 garden<br />

boxes producing fresh herbs and vegetables<br />

used at the Pope Francis Centre<br />

Ÿ Bi-weekly deliveries of fresh local fruits and<br />

vegetables to elementary and secondary<br />

schools with socio-economic needs<br />

3.7. | Support the diversity of communities<br />

Ÿ Students and their families facing financial difficulties are supported by offering programs that supply<br />

meals, nutrition education or no-cost camping opportunities<br />

Ÿ Support provided to families who need financial assistance for school dress code, school uniform or<br />

school trips<br />

Ÿ Students with special needs were accommodated by a variety of programs provided by our Special<br />

Education Department<br />

Ÿ Programs to assist our First Nation, Metis and Inuit students were developed and provided by our<br />

Program Department<br />

Ÿ Outreach supports and services by the Board's Pope Francis Centre were further enhanced to support<br />

students throughout our system<br />

Ÿ Bi-weekly deliveries of fresh local fruits and vegetables to elementary and secondary schools with socioeconomic<br />

needs<br />
