STYLE
TWO STRAND TWIST OUTS 101
By Wagio Mokaya
Two strand twists are a popular form of protective style; and
their twist outs remain a popular open hair styling technique.
One can choose to do the twists on either wet or dry hair,
although most people advise that the results are best with wet
hair. However, results vary based on one’s hair type and
products used.
PRODUCTS:
• Sulphate-free shampoo
• Silicone-free Conditioner
• Leave in
• Butter, Gel or Crème of choice
• Denman Brush
PREPARATION:
• Start with freshly washed,
conditioned hair and
detangled hair,
• Part the hair into sections
to make the hair easy to
manage,
• Apply leave in, oil and
crème to prepare the hair
for styling.
METHOD:
• Open up a section, grab
two sections of hair, overlap
the two sections neatly
while twisting at your wrist
to get definition
• Twist from root to tip,
once you reach the end of
the hanging bantu knot technique to get more curls on the edges.
TWIST OUT:
• Wait until the hair is dry,
• Apply coconut oil or leave-in on your hands as you undo the
twists
of the hair partitions
• Style as desired.
Start out with clean and detangled hair
Apply product and twist from root to tips
Allow hair to dry before unraveling
