2016 COVER GIRL<br />
COMPETITION<br />
In the month of September 2016, we held our first Cover Girl<br />
competition.<br />
<strong>The</strong> cover girl call was made on the 18th of August on our social<br />
media pages. Interested parties were asked to send an image worthy<br />
of a magazine cover. <strong>The</strong>y were also requested to share a short<br />
descriptive snippet about themselves explaining to voters why they<br />
would be the best to feature in Kenya’s 1st Natural Hair and Living<br />
magazine.<br />
<strong>The</strong> submissions totaled 21 but one dropped out leaving the rest to<br />
vie for the prize. <strong>The</strong> competition ran from 12 noon on the 2nd<br />
September 2016 to 12 midnight on the 15th September 2016.<br />
Voting was only on our Instagram Page.<br />
<strong>The</strong> mechanics were very simple as contestants were asked to like<br />
our Instagram page, get their family, friends and fans to like their<br />
image. <strong>The</strong> person with the most likes by the close of the<br />
competition would be declared the winner to grace the cover of our<br />
3rd issue (Jan-Feb <strong>2017</strong>).<br />
<strong>The</strong> overall winner was Anita Juma (@anoshij.26) with 1,644 likes.<br />
Closely followed by Wanza King’oo (@wanza_wanza) with 1,420 likes<br />
while third place went to Fiona Kimiri (@fifieykimiri) with 386 likes.<br />
<strong>The</strong>se lucky ladies were also gifted with natural hair product packs,<br />
generously donated by AfroliciousKe, Shea by Asal, Marini Naturals<br />
and Harvest of Sunshine.<br />

experience throughout the process and this is what<br />

Why did you enter the <strong>Hairpolitan</strong> Cover Girl<br />
competition? My hair is natural and that's all that<br />
was needed.<br />
How did you feel when you found out you had<br />
won?<br />
I was happy and overwhelmed.<br />
How did you find the photo-shoot process? It<br />
was well organized and short.<br />
What do you want to do with this exposure that<br />
you have right now as <strong>Hairpolitan</strong>’s 1st Cover<br />
Girl winner? I would like to create awareness on<br />
embracing one's own skin and natural hair.<br />
Encouraged by the excitement surrounding the<br />
competition from start to finish, <strong>Hairpolitan</strong> will plan<br />
to hold similar competitions once a year. It will be<br />
interesting to see who the public deem best to<br />
grace our covers every so often. Thank you to all<br />
