Two Dollars July I am a June bug, crashing aimlessly into windows . Once I have finally entered one, I can't help but bash against the four walls of the room I am in. It feels awful, to bump so hard but I go with all my might. I fly so quickly, I crash so fast, I break my feet and limp under the heavy door, slowly. I am defeated . I have hurt myself. The windows were all open to me, whispering "co me, come." I did. Only to be gree ted by more walls, more obstacles. more hard feelings. As I walk under the door, a little giant picks me up in a Kleenex, afra id to touch me. It adva nces too fast and throw s me out the window. I fall, fall, fall. I catch the wind in my wings, fly over to another light-up window. I am so anxious to get in, to see new things, new walls. I am almost there. I can hear a book's page being turned. "Who is in there?" I wonder. I fly in with all my might. But I guess I didn't make it. for I feel pain, and find myself back down with the dirt and ants. I cannot move. I cannot see. I cann ot hear. I can only feel the earth beneath my back. I am a June bug, soon to be no more. E.N. Janet Kim It ad \'an c e ~ to\\' ards m e Slow a, a ma il. afraid of me.
