FRANKENSTEIN
FRANKENSTEIN
The doctor will
see you now
Dr Victoria Frankenstein, aka actor Polly Frame, offers an insight into life
with her creature on their current stay in Newcastle
How are you enjoying life in
Newcastle? My experiments
take up quite a lot of my time,
including my study of the
chemistry of gin at Bealim House.
The livestock on the Town Moor
may also yet feature in my work.
What do you think of the
shopping in the city centre?
We both enjoy designer clothes,
though this can be challenging
for the Creature who, at 8ft
tall and on the, um, broad side,
struggles to find things to fit,
which is a shame, as he fancies
himself a bit of a Tom Ford. We
also nip down to the ironmongers
on a Saturday morning to get the
Creature’s bolts tightened. He
considers this a vital part of his
grooming routine.
If we were meeting in the pub,
how would I recognise you? I’d
be the one demonstrating how
to distil G&T into pure ethanol.
The Creature (I don’t call him the
monster because he’s actually a
soft-hearted sweetie pie, despite
his recently revealed pathological
drive to murder me) likes a Bloody
Mary at The Bacchus, though for
some reason he struggles to find
drinking partners.
How else do you spend your
time? We love a game of Scrabble
in the evening, we’re planning to
go to The Great North Museum:
Hancock for its new skeleton
show, and we’ve enjoyed some
classes at Dance City – Tango
mainly. We hope to get a call from
Strictly Come Dancing, though
the Creature is a bit more Ed Balls
than Anton du Beke.
What’s on the menu in your flat?
The Creature’s tastes are pretty
simple – mainly raw meat, blood,
brains and bones, which he likes
to suck. As mentioned earlier, the
Town Moor is an area of interest
for us.
Where do you go on holiday?
I love a lakeshore retreat. In
Venezuela, where the Catatumbo
River meets Lake Maracaibo,
there are some 250-plus storms
a year, each featuring around
nine hours at a time of lightning,
which I particularly like. You
can get a similar effect in some
nightclubs, though the Creature
struggles to find dance partners…
Polly stars in Northern Stage’s production of Dr Frankenstein adapted by Selma Dimitrijevic, directed by Lorne
Campbell and designed by Tom Piper MBE, creator of the Poppies: Weeping Window installation at the Tower of
London.
