Fans of comic books, gaming, collectables and all<br />
things geek chic rejoice - Forbidden Planet is relocating<br />
a little further <strong>up</strong> Grainger Street to create<br />
the biggest science fiction and cult entertainment<br />
megastore outside London.<br />
The new store will be home to more than 10,000<br />
products and have a dedicated space for signings<br />
and gaming events. To celebrate, they’re putting on<br />
an opening day party on Feb 18 with special guests,<br />

Author Frances Hardinge offers <strong>up</strong> an insight into her<br />
fascinating fictional landscapes at Fantasy Worlds<br />
with Frances Hardinge at Newcastle uni.<br />
The award-winning writer’s novels flit between the<br />
magical spaces in between fantasy and reality and<br />
her latest novel, The Lie Tree, is a Victorian Gothic<br />
mystery which dips into palaeontology, post-mortem<br />
photography and feminism (as you do). A revealing<br />
event which is certain to stir the imagination…<br />

Scandi crush<br />
Proving there’s a lot more to Scandinavian style than Ikea’s<br />
Billy bookcases and meatballs, Finnish designer Krista Puranen<br />
Wilson brings us the delightful KOTA in the Grainger Market.<br />
Meaning ‘home’ in Finnish, KOTA sells stationery, fashion,<br />
fabrics, jewellery and homewares, including many brands you<br />
can’t buy in any other UK store. Our favourite pieces are the<br />
pretty printed c<strong>up</strong>s, tea towels and tote bags from Helsinkibased<br />
label Kauniste.<br />

Tonight, Matthew…<br />

He may be forever associated with the ridiculous telly talent show<br />
Stars in their Eyes (though he hasn’t presented it since 2004), but<br />
Matthew Kelly also gives a good account of himself as Mr Bennet<br />
in a much-praised production of Jane Austen’s romantic comedy<br />
Pride and Prejudice. Felicity Montagu (long-time assistant to Alan<br />
Partridge) steals the show as Mrs Bennet, while Tafline Steen and<br />
Benjamin Dilloway make their marks as Elizabeth and Mr Darcy.<br />
