Head Start is a FREE program for children 0 to 3 years. Many services are available for the enrolled children
and their families. Services for low income families, for children with disabilities, for children in foster care,
for homeless families. Free meals for enrolled children Social Services and case management for all families
enrolled. Referrals and resources to meet family needs. Transportation available (se local center for details).
Please contact your local MET-Head Start Center for a registration appointment.
Kimberly Chapa ESC 6: I have been working with MET Head Start for some time now and am pleased to share
with you that they are now offering points to migrant farm-worker families that apply for childcare. Their
waiting list/placement decisions are based on a point system, not necessarily first come first serve, so this is
a great opportunity for our families. Their facilities are spread-out over the Region 4, 5 and 6 Education
Service Center school zone areas, which is why I am sharing this information with you.
This system is in place at all 17 childcare locations (6 in Region 6 and 11 in either Region 4 or 5) associated
with MET. Some are actual MET Head Start facilities and others are a partnership. The Head Start facilities
are free of charge but I think the partnership facilities vary depending on location. You might consider calling
before referring a family. Also, although the childcare for 3-5 year old children will not be available until the
Fall, parents should apply as soon as possible.
Parents/Guardians need to be prepared to bring the following to include with their application:
Birth Certificate, Shot Record, Tax form 1040 from 2015
If applicable:
Public Assistance Award Letter (SNAP, WIC, etc.), Documentation of any disability the child might have,
Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for the Migrant Education Program.
