The junior gymnast finished in ninth in the all-around at the Glenbrook South regional thanks to top-12 performances across each of the four events. 3. Delaney Williams. Williams had a team-high 12 points for the Lake Forest High School girls basketball team in a win over Lake Zurich on Feb. 3 in Lake Forest. Todd Marver Freelance Reporter After the Spartans placed second at the CSL North conference meet two days earlier, Glenbrook North earned the same result at the Glenbrook South Regional on Monday, Jan. 30 in Glenview. The Spartans took second at the regional with a score of 136.325. Only the first-place team, Glenbrook South (146.4) advanced to the Stevenson Sectional on Feb. 6 automatically, but the Spartans were able to send a number of competitors through to sectionals thanks to a number of stellar routines. The top five competitors in each individual event and all-around automatically advanced to the sectional. Spartans junior Kelly Lazar placed fifth in all-around with a score of 34.45 including 9.15 on vault (fourth place), 8.3 on bars (eighth place), 8.2 on beam (seventh place) and 8.8 on floor (sixth place). “I think the meet overall went really well,” Lazar said. “I haven’t done gymnastics for almost a week, so I think I did pretty good. Vault was definitely my strongest.” Senior Katie Brownlee automatically qualified for sectionals on vault (fifth place; 8.775). She also placed sixth in all-around Listen Up “She had to force up a lot of looks. (34.45), ninth on bars (8.25), 11th on beam (7.775) and eighth on floor (8.6). “I was really nervous going in because I didn’t have great warm-ups and I didn’t do amazingly at conference,” Brownlee said. “But today I think I pretty much hit everything that I could have so I’m really surprised and really proud. Sectionals is my last meet ever, which is really sad. So I’m just hoping that I can go out there and do my best that I can because it’ll be my last shot.” Senior Alexandra Michalak automatically qualified for sectionals on bars (8.875; third place) and beam (8.9; third place). “I thought my routines were pretty solid,” Michalak said. “I stuck both of them. I was really confident going into the meet and I’m happy with how I did. I’m excited to continue on in the state series. I think I’m going to work more on small things like pointing toes and straight legs. Just little things that add up for this upcoming week for sectionals.” Junior Brittany Ullrich automatically qualified for sectionals on bars (8.775; fourth place). “I just did bars, but I think I had a pretty good routine,” Ullrich said. “I can improve a little bit, but it was one of my better tune in routines of the season. I’m hoping that I can do good at sectionals next week.” Lake Forest placed fourth in the sectional with a score of 122, one point behind third-place Libertyville. None of the Scouts placed in the top five to automatically advance to sectionals. Junior Jessica Pasquesi and freshman Sophie Prozument were hoping to qualify at-large, but the Scouts did not earn any at-large bids. Pasquesi placed ninth in all-around with a score of 32.6 including 8.45 on vault (eighth place), 7.575 on bars (12th place), 7.95 on beam (10th place) and 8.625 on floor (seventh place). “I thought I had a solid meet,” Pasquesi said. “(On the) beam I touched at the bottom of my dismount, which I was a little disappointed with because it brought my score down a little bit. But other than that I had some pretty solid routines. I was a little nervous, but I think when I started competing I got over that fear. “I hope I can make it to sectionals because I’ve been working hard for that. I think I’ll work more on my dismounts and jumps on beam because I was a little wobbly on those. So if I make it in all-around or beam, I’ll work on those. PHOTOS BY Carlos Alvarez/22nd Century Media up my score and I guess I could just work on perfecting everything and making better form just so my score bumps a little bit.” Prozument placed 12th in the all-around with a score of 30.95 including 8.225 on vault (12th place), 6.925 on bars (16th place), 7.55 on beam (15th place) and 8.25 on floor (14th place). “I’ve had better meets,” Prozument said. “I had a fall on bars and a fall on beam that I don’t usually Index 27 - Pom and Dance 26- Athlete of the Week do. But I just decided for floor to just go out there and give it my all and just try to do my best. It kind of paid off. If I make it I guess I’m going to work on bars a lot and try to perfect it and get more consistent. For beam I’m going to keep working on my series and maybe add more jumps in I guess.
