YOU COULD CALL IT ALMOST HEAVEN. ARRO KHAMPA SHANGRI-LA, CHINA Arro Khampa means “Friend, I bid you welcome” in the eastern Tibetan dialect. This warmhearted phrase pays homage to the ancient tradition of welcoming caravans and travelers along the Ancient Tea Horse Road. With an open invitation to relax, take in the warmth, nourishment and respite from the rigors of travel, the weary traders of long ago took shelter and rest in their favorite ‘netsang’ (guest-house). ACCOMMODATION Preserving the indigenous culture and lifestyle of Shangri La, the 17 room Arro Khampa has been built in a rustic, yet luxurious Tibetan style. Each of the 3 Khampa Suites and 14 Deluxe Rooms feature today’s modern conveniences but are complemented with traditional design accents featuring impressive handcarved timbers, brightly colored textiles and intricate carvings. Nyima Gyisa Rooftop Lounge Enjoy a variety of tapas, juicy BBQ, crusty Pizza or great glass of blooming wine- Nyima Gyisa Rooftop Lounge is the perfect place in Shangri-La for all this and more. Overlooking the golden lid temple, Nyima Gyisa Rooftop Lounge off ers cozy indoor sitting and a warm gathering for friends and family around one of its two large fire pits outside. Pure pleasures are now in abundance at Nyima Gyisa. Tsayang Gyatso Private Dining Whether you’re dining with a few friends or in a large group, the Tsayang Gyatso dining room creates a stylish and private space to enjoy a warm crackling fire, share a delicious meal, or relax with a book. Tsayang Gyatso is located just off the central courtyard and includes a collection of Chinese and Tibetan classic literature as well as interesting local curiosities and artifacts. TREKKING & EXCURSIONS Shangri-La means the ‘sun and moon in heart’. It is a place with continuous snowy mountains, endless grasslands, steep and grand gorges, and is home to the hairy Yak cows. At the center point where Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan all meet, the Shangri-La countryside off ers a rare mix of wonderful sightseeing and adventurous trekking on the Shikha Mountain, which rises 3850 meters above sea level.
