DINING Feasts from the past. Savour the culinary wonders of good old plantation cooking. The colonial residences of yesteryear were famed for their devoted cooks. The ‘Appu’ as they were called, were unpretentious master chefs. In keeping with that tradition, the food at Mandira Bungalows is also lovingly prepared by our very own ‘Appu’. So whether it’s a colonial style English breakfast, a blazing BBQ at dusk or some truly authentic Sri Lankan meals, your taste buds will be in for a royal treat. With the cold mountain air to whet your appetite, meal times are indeed worth waiting for. However, for the diet conscious, or for those with particular nutritional requirements, they can be catered to as well. Literally ‘home grown’, the fresh fruits and vegetables are sourced from nearby farmss and often from the bungalow garden too. Plantation life was primarily all about simple pleasures – good, home cooked food was one of them. Culinary traditions are still strictly observed and meals prepared the old fashioned way. However, the ceremonial and traditional High Tea on the lawn cannot be missed – with plantation fresh tea, of course.
