CAMP INFORMATION 

Holiday closing! No camp July 4th. 

NEW CAMP OPTIONS! 

The Vernon Hills Park District will continue to offer two, four-week sessions of camp that include bus service for the camps listed with the bus 

symbol. Please see page 2 for bus information. This is only available to Vernon Hills residents. In order to provide scheduling flexibility for 

families, we are now offering two-week sessions for most of our camps. These options do not include bus service. 

PAYMENT SCHEDULE 

• The payment schedule is offered for camps 

with fees that exceed $200 per session; all 

other camp fees are due in full at the time 

of registration. 

• A $100 deposit for four-week camps, $50 

deposit for two-week camps (per child/per 

session) is due at time of registration. 

• The balance will be charged in two equal 

installments on 4/19 and 5/19. Credit/ 

debit card authorization is required for 

those installment charges. 

• For those registering for session 2 on or 

after May 20, full payment is due at the 

time of registration.

CAMP REFUND POLICIES 

• If a refund request is made prior to the 

registration deadline, a full refund, less a 

$5 service charge per camp/per child is 

granted. 

• If a refund request is made after the 

registration deadline, a full refund less a 

25% service charge per camp/per child 

is granted. 

• Refund requests will be reviewed on a case 

by case basis. 

• All refund requests must be made in writing.

CAMP SWIM TEST 

Campers will be asked to pass a basic swim 

test to be able to swim with the Vernon Hills 

Park District. Visit www.vhparkdistrict.org and 

go to Camps, listed under the Programs tab to 

view the requirements of the swim test. 

CAMP GROUP FORMATIONS 

We do our best to group kids of the same age 

or grade level. In addition to using Friendship 

Requests, we also take into consideration the 

number of kids in a grade, gender, counselors, 

and maximum children per group. Many times 

we receive “chain requests” where Camper A 

wants to be with Camper B and Camper B wants 

to be with Camper C, which we do not honor. 

One goal of camp is to make new friends! We 

will comply with one mutual request between 

two children in the same grade or of the same 

age, but both friends must request each other.

DAY CAMP INFORMATION 

LOOK FOR THE LUNCH BOX AND BUS ICONS! 

CAMP LUNCH OPTION 

Camps offering the lunch option have the lunch box symbol next to their camp description. 

On the two days per week that your child goes to the Family Aquatic Center, Bo-Bo’s Restaurant will provide lunch with 

four meal options. The price is $48 per child, per 4-week session, which includes eight meals, and $24 per child, per 

2-week session, which includes 4 meals. In the event of inclement weather, Bo-Bo’s will deliver to the camp. Chips may be 

substituted for french fries on those days. 

The four meal options are: a hot dog, a cheeseburger, chicken tenders, or a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Meals include 

a 16 oz. beverage and choice of french fries or fruit. The kids can decide which meal they want when they arrive at camp 

that day. 

BUS TRANSPORTATION 

Rosters are provided to the bus company, who creates the routes, so that 

the first child on the bus in the morning will be the first one off in the 

afternoon. Busses stop at intersections designated by the bus company. 

No personal stops will be granted. A bus counselor supervises each bus 

throughout the route to ensure safety. 

Failure to register before the deadline results in choosing a stop 

already determined by the bus company. During the week before camp 

starts, you will be mailed your child’s stop location and pick-up and 

drop-off times. 

The bus will NOT drop off a child in grades K-3 

without an adult present at their bus stop. 

During the first couple of days of a session, please understand that 

the busses may be late. Drivers do their best to keep on schedule, but 

especially on the first day, parents take pictures and want to meet the 

driver and/or bus counselor – thus pushing the schedule behind. 

Bus transportation is only available to Vernon Hills residents.

Day Camps 

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM 

(Grades 8-9, Based on school year ending in Spring 2017) 

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program teaches young teens to be 

responsible, caring and creative camp counselors. CITs will assist 

camp counselors with projects and activities, four days a week, and will 

work with a new group each week. Active participation with campers is 

required. Your teen may only be enrolled for one session. 

All CITs attend an orientation meeting on the first day of camp, where 

they receive a CIT t-shirt and an instruction manual. In addition, they 

attend weekly workshops to learn new skills from the camp director. Bus 

transportation is provided to Hartmann and Peterson Parks only. Bus 

schedules and camp information is sent before camp begins. 

Please note: Payment for Counselor in Training camp is due in full at the 

time of registration.

Townline Elementary School 

Kid Zone is a five-week camp that complements the HEI Program. 

Campers enjoy games, activities, sports, crafts and two days of open 

swim per week at the Family Aquatic Center. Each day, campers need to 

bring a non-perishable sack lunch and drink as we will start the camp day 

by eating lunch. Pick-up is at Townline Elementary at 3 pm.

Let us en-”lighten” your child’s summer with arts and crafts, games, 

stories, songs, show and tell, theme days, special events, and 

entertainment! Water activities include sprinklers, portable pools and

Each star will shine, as we feature a wide spectrum of entertaining

This camp provides an opportunity to attend full-day camp. Pack their 

lunch and swim suits for swimming at the Family Aquatic Center two 

mornings per week. Our swim time is closely supervised by our counselors 

and pool staff. Our camp days also include time in the gymnasium for 

sports and games. But wait, there’s more! We also have use of the 

community room and classrooms for arts and crafts, songs, stories and 

entertainment. We walk to nearby Augusta Park occasionally.

Peterson Park 

Little Giants Sports Camp is designed to offer your child fun and exciting 

summer sports activities including water play, relay races, sports theme 

days, recreational swim and group games! Campers are bussed to the 

Family Aquatic Center two times per week for recreational swimming and 

twice weekly swim lessons. Please indicate your child’s swim level on the 

Camp registration form. Weekly field trips take our campers to exciting 

places near Vernon Hills.

Sullivan Community Center, Meeting Rooms A & B 

Grab your friends and join us at a camp just for girls. Girlfriends camp is 

perfect for a young girl who is creative, loves to make crafts, make new 

friends, and get on stage to show off her dancing and singing skills! Shy 

or outgoing, if you’re a girl going into 3rd-6th grade in the fall, you will love 

this camp! Campers venture outdoors for exciting games and innovative 

group activities. Participants enjoy recreational swimming at our Family 

Aquatic Center twice a week and a once a week fieldtrip. 

S.O.S. CAMP (Summer of Service) 


Sullivan Community Center, Afterschool Room 

Join us for our Summer of Service as we venture out to volunteer in the 

community! You can do it just for fun or to collect volunteer hours for 

church or school. A camp week includes two days of volunteering at a 

local business, organization or helping with a fundraising event, two days 

of swimming at our Family Aquatic Center and one field trip.

Century Park North Pavilion 

If you can’t imagine a summer without sports, swimming, and field trips, 

this camp is for you! Two days per week are spent at camp playing sports, 

running relay races, and participating in games and activities. Once 

a week, campers embark on an adventurous field trip. The remaining 

two days of the week are spent at the Family Aquatic Center riding the 

waterslides and lounging in the lazy river!

Vernon Hills Athletic Complex 

This beginner program is open to boys and girls ages 5-6 years old. In 

addition to focusing on the basics of the game, players also learn that 

practice leads to improvement and the best way to have more fun is 

playing baseball.

WHITE SOX INTERMEDIATE CAMP (7-8 Years) 


This camp focuses on essential individual aspects of baseball including 

throwing, hitting, bunting, fielding, pitching and base-running. Throughout 

the week, lessons are reinforced by using fun skill games. 

Since 1994, more than 50,000 youth baseball players have attended 

one of our White Sox summer camps to focus on essential individual 

baseball skills. Professional coaches from the White Sox organization 

have programs designed for kids from 5-12 at every ability level. Every 

summer camp participant receives an exclusive Guaranteed Rate Field 

experience! This opportunity of a lifetime for each camp participant, 

along with one guest, will include a parade on the field and a Q&A session 

with a White Sox personality, coach and a current White Sox player! 

Also, during the camp, each player will participate in a special skills 

competition. The top 30 qualifiers in each age throughout the summer 

will compete in the finals on U.S Cellular Field in September. Each 

camper also receives six (6) White Sox ticket vouchers*, Academy hat, 

t-shirt, evaluation report and graduation certificate. Restrictions apply 

to ticket vouchers.

WHITE SOX ADVANCED CAMP (9-12 Years) 


This camp builds upon the basics and will advance your game to the next 

level. Depending on the skill level of the players, this camp will touch on 

advanced hitting and throwing techniques, advanced base running and 

other techniques that could be used on the field this season. On the 

final day, all players will get the opportunity to judge their improvement 

by playing a game.

TINY-HAWK MULTI SPORT (3-4 Years) 

Hawthorn Mellody Park 

The essentials of soccer and basketball are introduced in a fun and safe 

environment with lots of encouragement. Children will learn balance, 

body movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development through 

a series of sport-specific games tailored to their attention spans. Our 

staff are trained to handle the specific needs of these young athletes. 

The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 6:1. Participants should 

bring appropriate clothing, a water bottle, runinng shoes and sunscreen. 

All participants receive a merit award. All participants must be toilet 

trained. This is not a drop-off program; a parent or caregiver must stay 

and participate throughout the program.

This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first

By the end of the week, campers walk away with knowledge of multiple 

sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and 

self-discipline. Participants finish camp the final 2 hours each day by 

swimming at the Family Aquatic Center. The participant-to-coach ratio 

is approximately 12:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a 

lunch and two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes, a baseball glove, 

swim suit, towel and sunscreen. All participants receive a t-shirt and a 

merit award.

Skyhawks Sports t-ball is designed to teach the fundamental skills of 

the game--fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running, while 

infusing each athlete with the exciting spirit of the game. Athletes learn 

basic skills through exercises tailored to individuals through tee hitting. 

These athletes will be equipped with the opportunity to succeed and will 

have fun all the way through.

Skyhawks Cheerleading teaches young athletes the essential skills 

to lead crowds and support the home team! This entry-level cheer 

program ensures that each camper learns cheers, proper hand and body 

movements, and jumping techniques. There is no stunting—just a big 

focus on fun while each cheerleader learns important life skills such as 

teambuilding and leadership. The week concludes with a choreographed 

performance and, when available, a chance to cheer at a Skyhawks 

football or basketball camp!

SKYHAWKS GOLF CAMP (3-9 Years) 


Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes by 

teaching proper technique to refine essential skills of the game. Golf is 

a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on 

the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To 

assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At 

Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed 

for beginning golfers, including oversized plastic club heads and “mini 

tennis balls” to help build confidence and to have fun. 

Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the 

entry-level player. SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can 

make easy and effective transitions onto the golf course. No need to 

bring your own clubs - all equipment is provided. Participants receive a 

t-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately

Skyhawks Flag Football is the perfect program for young athletes who 

want a complete introduction to “America’s Game” or for those who 

simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. 

Through our “skill of the day” activities, campers learn skills on both 

sides of the ball including the core components of passing, catching, and 

de-flagging or defensive positioning – all presented in a fun and positive 

environment. Skyhawks Flag Football is recommended for beginning to 

intermediate athletes. The week ends with the Skyhawks Super Bowl, 

giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron!

Skyhawks Track & Field was developed to introduce young athletes to this 

sport, rich in tradition and history. These programs combine technical

prepare athletes for a future in cross-country, track & field events, and 

distance running while inspiring a love for running and being active. The

MARS JAMZZ I INTRO TO GUITAR/KEYBOARD (7-12 Years) 

Experience quality instruction in a friendly format that stresses fun as 

well as learning. Students are introduced to the basics of both the guitar 

and keyboard in this week long camp. 

PASTEL DRAWING WORKSHOP - OCEANLIFE (6-12 Years) 

Five, fun-filled days await our students as we explore ocean life as 

they learn to draw and color with pastels. We create detailed, pastel 

compositions on each day, focusing on a different ocean-themed subject 

such as sea stars and clown fish. 

JR. TRANSPORTATION WORKSHOP (4-6 Years) 

This workshop gives you the chance to learn to draw all the different 

modes of transportation we use to get around, maybe even some we 

don’t use! Cars, trucks, airplanes, helicopters and more will fill our 

drawings. We complete our last day with one large scene including as 

many roads, bridges and vehicles as we can draw. 

YR PRINCESS DRAWING WORKSHOP (5-10 Years) 

Join Young Rembrandts as we travel back in time to the Middle Ages 

for our Castle Workshop. Our students will strengthen their drawing 

and coloring skills. From knights in shining armor to elegantly-dressed 

maidens, our students will learn how to compose a well-drawn figure. 

PIRATE WORKSHOP (6-12 Years) 

Ahoy mates! Join us as we explore the world of pirates with new drawing 

adventures! Pirates, treasure maps, sunken treasures, parrots, a grand 

pirate ship and more inspire us as we draw, using cartoon and realistic 

drawing techniques. 

STRATEGY FOR KIDS CAMP (6-11 Years) 

This class is an exciting opportunity for your child to develop logic, 

problem solving, and planning skills. In every class, each child learns 

two or three new skill-based games (no luck or chance involved). Both 

team and individual games are played. There will also be a tournament 

with prizes! 

CHESS SCHOLARS MINI CAMPS (6-13 Years) 

This camp is great for both beginners and experienced young players. 

Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided 

practice time. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess Belt® 

and compete for prizes! 

MIGHTY MATHEMATICIANS CAMP (8-10 Years) 

This class is an exciting and fun way for your child to practice their math 

skills over the summer. Math enrichment activities and games help your 

child come home with a passion for math and a greater understanding of 

math’s real-world applications. 

WICKED SCIENCE REACTION/ACTION (Grades 4-5) 

Take a walk into the exciting lab of a chemist where you will mix, measure, 

and make predictions to ‘think like scientists’ and also discover why 

things act like they do. There is a new activity each day with results that 

will astound you! 

WICKED SCIENCE SCIENCE SNACKS (Grades 2-5) 

Every day is a new adventure in science. We’ll make slime balls and 

parachutes, remote control rollers, stroboscopes and secret bells. Kids 

will love doing all the hands-on activities that provide a basis in biology, 

chemistry and physics. 

FUN FLUENCY SPANISH IMMERSION CAMP (7-12 Years) 

Students learn Spanish naturally through immersion, movement, games, 

songs, rhythm, reading and acting out stories. Students will quickly see 

how fun and easy it is to understand, read, and write in Spanish while 

being immersed in language, play, and laughter. 

FUN FLUENCY ADVANCED SPANISH MINI CAMP (7-12 Years)

SRACLC 

SPECIAL RECREATION ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL LAKE COUNTY 

The Vernon Hills Park District is a cooperative member agency of the 

Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County. SRACLC provides 

community based therapeutic recreation programs and services to 

people of all ages with disabilities or special needs. 

SRACLC is a cooperative effort of the Grayslake, Vernon Hills, and 

Mundelein Park Districts and the Villages of Hawthorn Woods, Lake 

Zurich, Libertyville, and Lincolnshire. Individuals residing within the 

boundaries of the Member Agencies are considered “residents” of 

SRACLC and may utilize the services. 

SRACLC offers more than 500 weekly programs, special events, and 

camps during the year. SRACLC also recognizes that some people with 

disabilities prefer to participate in recreation programs within their own 

Park District or Recreation Department. SRACLC can help you with this 

opportunity by providing an extra staff, if deemed necessary, behavior 

management support, disability awareness training, and other adaptive 

services necessary for safe and successful participation.

SRACLC camps are geared towards children and teens, ages 3 – 21, with 

special needs or those who have better success in smaller groups with 

more supervision. Counselors plan fun and exciting activities such as 

high energy group games, themed crafts, water play, singing and dancing, 

morning field trips, and so much more. Campers will go swimming every 

Tuesday and Thursday afternoon as well as enjoy outdoor play each day. 

NOTE: Campers are grouped according to age and ability.
