William had been an active member of Strathgryffe gym and he was also a keen fishing enthusiast at Bridge of Weir Angling Club. Some of William’s family members, including his children Rachel and Erin, are fundraising in his memory by taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on 30th April which involves a 23 mile walk from Glasgow to Balloch. All money raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation to help fund their research into cardiovascular disease. @GryffeAds www.advertizer.co.uk march 2017 9 9 Preparation of the next Local Development Plan The adopted Renfrewshire Local Development Plan (August 2014) sets out the policies and proposals for the next ten years but is required to be revised every five years. Renfrewshire Council is consulting on its Main Issues Report and accompanying Environmental Report as the first stage in preparing the next Local Development Plan for the area. The Main Issues Report sets out the main changes and issues that have emerged since the adoption of the current Renfrewshire Local Development Plan, as well as setting out the Council's preferred options and alternatives for development across Renfrewshire. We would like your views on any of the issues and options presented in the Main Issues Report and Environmental Report. All comments received by the Council during this consultation will be taken into consideration in the preparation of the Renfrewshire Proposed Local Development Plan and the update of the Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report. Representations must be made by 5pm Monday 1st May 2017. Any person who wishes to make comments should return a completed response form (available online) to localplanconsultation@renfrewshire.gov.uk or by post to: Development & Housing Services, Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley PA1 1JD. As a population, we are living longer than ever before so we need to keep ourselves in the best condition possible, including our eyes. Of course, some things we can’t do much about e.g., inherited genes, but we can make things better or worse depending on how we live our lives. By doing the things we all know we should be doing (healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, regular exercise), we will be delaying or preventing some of the serious eye conditions related to high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Simple things such as wearing UV-protecting sunglasses will also reduce the damage done to the eyes such as cataracts, eyelid disease and macular degeneration. Protecting the eyes makes sense regarding DIY & gardening tasks, but should also be considered for sports. Cycling, to protect from loose stones or insects hitting the eyes. Squash, rugby, football etc to prevent direct impact (e.g., a squash ball is just small enough to fit between the protective bones surrounding the eye and can cause particularly serious injuries). Helping the eyes when there is visual stress e.g., dyslexia – precision-tinted overlays can make a huge difference to someone’s life. When glasses don’t help: options include prescription swimming goggles, contact lenses for gymnastics or golfing in the rain, or taking supplements to help those with dry macular degeneration. Having regular eye tests is therefore essential. Not just to discuss the best options, but also to test for any potentially sight-threatening diseases – alot of them don’t affect your sight until it’s too late.
