HOWWOOD CURLING CLUB<br />
Come and Try Bonspiel 9 th <strong>March</strong><br />
bto Scottish Orienteering<br />
Urban League 2015<br />
Howwood CC are always looking for new curlers to join our club.<br />
Following our successful Come and Try Bonspiel in January we<br />
are holding a further session on the 9 th <strong>March</strong> at 7:30pm at<br />
Greenacres curling rink.<br />
This is an opportunity for new beginners to experience curling<br />
with qualified coaching and those that came to our first session<br />
to get more practice. We will also organise a curling match<br />
during this session. The cost is £5 and refreshments will be<br />
provided.<br />
Following this session we will invite those that are to be<br />
interested to our end of season Bonspiel which takes place in<br />
the 1 st week in April and then to consider joining our club to<br />
take part in the new <strong>2016</strong>/17 season.<br />

The awards ceremony for the 2015 Scottish<br />
Orienteering Urban League sponsored by Glasgow<br />
based bto solicitors took place in Edinburgh in<br />
January after race 1 for the <strong>2016</strong> series. It was<br />
a good year for local orienteering club Clydeside<br />
Orienteers (CLYDE) who took two first places and<br />
3 second places in the series of races across 8<br />
Scottish towns and cities. CLYDE are members<br />
of the Linwood and <strong>Gryffe</strong> Community Sports Hub<br />
and have members across Renfrewshire.<br />
Top prizes went to Houston Primary pupil Michael<br />
Paterson (pictured) who won the mens under 12<br />
series, and<br />
Donald<br />
Petrie,<br />
also of<br />
Houston, who won the men’s over<br />
55 category, despite a lengthy<br />
injury layoff. Michael also won the<br />
prestigious UK Urban League by<br />
competing in races across the<br />
UK from as far afi eld as Forres to<br />
Chester and Milton Keynes.<br />
CLYDE are hoping to stage an<br />
event in this year’s series in<br />
Paisley on their new map funded by<br />
SportScotland and Renfrewshire<br />

- A night with Alex Gray<br />
The ladies section of OCRGC hosted their first social event of the year with<br />
‘A night with Alex Gray’.<br />
Alex Gray is an international award winning crime writer who entertained 90<br />
members and guests to the story of her career so far and tales of researching<br />
her 12 novels based around Glasgow and its surrounding area.<br />
Alex finished off the evening by reading an excerpt from her current novel<br />
and<br />
answering<br />
questions<br />
from<br />
the<br />
assembled<br />
audience.<br />

was experienced<br />
by all.
