Following our successful Come and Try Bonspiel in January we are holding a further session on the 9 th March at 7:30pm at Greenacres curling rink. This is an opportunity for new beginners to experience curling with qualified coaching and those that came to our first session to get more practice. We will also organise a curling match during this session. The cost is £5 and refreshments will be provided. Following this session we will invite those that are to be interested to our end of season Bonspiel which takes place in the 1 st week in April and then to consider joining our club to take part in the new 2016/17 season. If you are interested please contact: Lachie Carmichael – lachiedcarmichael@hotmail.com / 01294 823643 The awards ceremony for the 2015 Scottish Orienteering Urban League sponsored by Glasgow based bto solicitors took place in Edinburgh in January after race 1 for the 2016 series. It was a good year for local orienteering club Clydeside Orienteers (CLYDE) who took two first places and 3 second places in the series of races across 8 Scottish towns and cities. CLYDE are members of the Linwood and Gryffe Community Sports Hub and have members across Renfrewshire. Top prizes went to Houston Primary pupil Michael Paterson (pictured) who won the mens under 12 series, and Donald Petrie, also of Houston, who won the men’s over 55 category, despite a lengthy injury layoff. Michael also won the prestigious UK Urban League by competing in races across the UK from as far afi eld as Forres to Chester and Milton Keynes. CLYDE are hoping to stage an event in this year’s series in Paisley on their new map funded by SportScotland and Renfrewshire Council. Check out the website for details www.clydesideorienteers. org.uk The other CLYDE successes were: Kirsten Robertson 2nd under 12 women Alice Wilson 2nd under 16 women Dave Robertson 2nd over 40 men Photo’s Crawford Lyndsay (ESOC) Old Course Ranfurly Golf Club - A night with Alex Gray The ladies section of OCRGC hosted their first social event of the year with ‘A night with Alex Gray’. Alex Gray is an international award winning crime writer who entertained 90 members and guests to the story of her career so far and tales of researching her 12 novels based around Glasgow and its surrounding area. Alex finished off the evening by reading an excerpt from her current novel and answering questions from the assembled audience. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was experienced by all.

Kilmacolm’s Captain, Colin McGinn, told The Advertizer, “We are celebrating our 125th year since the formation of the Golf Club. To mark this occasion we are offering a unique opportunity for those who have thought about joining a golf club, or for those thinking of moving club, to come along and get a tour of the Clubhouse and facilities. What Are You Aiming at? “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.” The general flow of human life tends to be toward ease and comfort. One day flows into the next, and many of us never quite get around to turning our good intentions into reality. Those ‘good intentions,’ while no doubt admirable, tend to remain unrealized, mainly because they are too vague - vague ideas are impossible to focus on and aim for. Without setting specific goals, your good intentions are exactly like a moving target. You would like to lose some weight, feel a little better, make a change in your diet - but without clearly defined goals and methods, you can’t focus and make it happen. The way to steady the target is to define your goals and write them down: • How much weight do you want to lose? • What kind of changes do you want to make in your diet? • How many days per week do you want to exercise? • Which article of clothing do you wish would fit your body again? by Lesley Handley • How much weight would you like to lift while strength training? Once you know where you want to end up, you are much more likely to get there. But you have to start moving toward your goals. That is where momentum comes in. Sometimes, the hardest part of reaching a goal is just getting started. That first day of doing things differently or the first experience of bypassing an unhealthy treat in favour of a food that will give you more energy can be daunting. It isn’t easy and it certainly isn’t fun. It is hard to change lifelong habits on your own. You need radical motivation that sometimes comes from involving others in your efforts. Setting deadlines, making commitments and entering events all provide an external motivation that will carry you through even the toughest temptations. Once you get started, you will find that the momentum kicks in and it becomes easier and easier to keep going.
