See more on p57. Linda said the thought of stepping out was terrifying, but well worth it. Did anyone spot the error in last month’s issue? If you didn’t then it wasn’t that obvious and we don’t need to elaborate. For those who did, the problem has now been rectified and should not recur. A technical glitch. The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland has recommended that in Renfrewshire, Bridge of Weir, Bishopton & Langbank is to remain a three Councillor Ward, with the Ward number changing to 11 instead of 10. Johnstone North, Kilbarchan & Lochwinnoch will now include Howwood and the number of councillors increased from 3 to 4. Houston, Crosslee & Linwood Ward remains at 4. As far as I am aware, in Inverclyde, Ward 1 which includes Kilmacolm, is to be reduced from 4 councillors to 3. 128 objections have been lodged against the proposed development by Gladman Developments Ltd for 80 houses along the north side of Kilmacolm Road. However, with a decision on this application by Renfrewshire Council Planning Department not expected before September, villagers will be left in limbo waiting for news. Likewise, there is no news on the horizon yet for the former Bull’s Garage site. We hope that it won’t be too much longer and that it will be a beneficial development for the village. It appears that permission has been granted by the Scottish Government for a Windfarm at Corlic Hill, featuring eight 100 metre high turbines. This decision overturns a refusal by Inverclyde Council. In Kilmacolm, the development at the former Institute Building at Kilmacolm Cross is making slow progress. Apparently, architecural changes mean that the building cannot proceed until all is agreed and approved; let’s hope that happens fairly soon. In the Roads improvement programme for 2016/17, resurfacing works are scheduled for Watt Rd and Clevans Rd in Bridge of Weir. However, Lawmarnock Rd, Hillview Rd, Church Rd, Gorse Cres and St Andrews Drv will remain on the reserve list. The footpath at St. Mungo Court is to be repaired after Virgin Media lay their cables. Also Renfrewshire Council has said that if the residents repair the footpaths at Craigends in Houston, then the council would adopt these for future maintenance. There is talk of creating a pathway between the villages of Bridge of Weir and Houston. BoW Community Council has been awarded funding to look at the feasibility of reinstating and upgrading the path along the riverside known as the Lade Walk. Sustrans could also fund 50% of new cycle path to provide access to work/school and to connect communities. This sounds like a really great idea and we look forward to hearing more about this. The new Parking Discs introduced in Kilmacolm seem to be causing some confusion. When parking in “limited waiting” parking bays in Kilmacolm’s ‘Parking Disc Zone’ you must place a parking disc in the windscreen to indicate your arrival time. Parking discs are widely available free of charge from Council offices and a large number of shops locally. Please be sure to have a parking disc before you park. Parking Attendants should allow a short period of time to allow motorists to access discs, and will be happy to provide them if you approach the officer directly. The same system operates in Greenock & Gourock town centres. More info on p40. And finally, Brighter Bridge of Weir have got their teeth into their latest big project - the woodland garden opposite Livery Walk - see p31. Some very generous local businesses have helped out with compost and bark chippings - thank you to Gibb Stuart, W B Smith of Laigh Auchencloich Farm and Acorn Garden Services of Clydebank.
