DEAR VERNON HILLS RESIDENTS,
Soon warmer weather will welcome you and your family back to the parks and playgrounds. In just a few months, kids will
be having fun at summer camps and riding the slides at the Family Aquatic Center.
Family Aquatic Center season passes are on sale now! Purchase your pass before April 30th and save 10%. I hope
everyone who enjoys our aquatic center all summer long will attend our annual Flick & Float movie night on July 22 and
our Summer Splash pool party on August 4. Do you like to camp? Pack up your family, tent and sleeping bags and spend
an evening under the stars at the FAC on June 24-25. Swimming, s’mores, an outdoor movie and pancake breakfast are
sure to please your whole family.
The Sullivan Community Center’s renovation is complete! The Administrative staff, currently housed in the Laschen
Community Center, will be moving to the Sullivan Community Center in early spring. The Laschen Community Center is
owned by the Village of Vernon Hills and the Village will make the determination regarding the future of that building.
Please note that the Park District will no longer offer rental meeting rooms at the Laschen Center after March 1, 2017.
Our preschoolers moved into their new wing in early January, complete with a new, secure preschool entrance leading to
four brightly colored classrooms with all new amenities. View photos of the new preschool wing on page 31. A second
gymnasium is now open for play too. The District has the opportunity to offer more programming space for various athletic
programs. A more detailed explanation of the renovation can be found on page 4. On April 8, join us for the Grand
Reopening and Preschool Open House, showcasing our new and improved Sullivan Community Center.
This is the year to try a new activity! Youth Sailing classes (page 41), Adult Stand Up Paddleboard classes (page 65), and
Paddleboard Yoga (page 47) are being offered this summer. If you love to garden, but are short on space, why not rent a
plot in one of the District’s three community gardens? See page 8 for more information.
A new feature on our website is direct program registration from our online brochures. When browsing the program brochure
online, click on the title and it will direct you to the registration site for the specific program. While you’re on our website,
click on the green box on the home page to sign-up for our Park Paths community e-newsletter.

BOARD MEETINGS
The District is governed by five elected Commissioners who set policy for the operation of the Park District. Park
Board meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Sullivan Community Center, 635 N.
Aspen, unless otherwise posted. Please call to confirm the dates or times or visit us online at www.vhparkdistrict.org.
Meetings are open to the public and residents are invited to share comments or suggestions during the appropriate
time as listed on the agenda.
