CHAPEL - Small Groups
This year in chapel, we are excited to be involved
once again in small group ministry. Small groups happen
once a month and are a time for students to meet in a more
comfortable setting with a staff member.
Small groups help facilitate the two goals that we have for
chapels this year: to grow in our relationship with God and
build community with each other. We discuss what we’ve
been learning in chapel and share our stories with each other.
Most of our teachers and some of our other staff members
volunteer their time to be small group leaders.
We’re so thankful to have a staff team that cares about the
spiritual lives of our students. Chapel is all about engaging
students with the grand story of Jesus Christ, and finding
out how we fit into that story. Small groups is just one of the
ways we can help NCC students do that.

Senior Girls Volleyball
NAVS WINTER ROUND
UP
With winter comes indoor
sports excitement, and the 2017 season
has not disappointed. The Sr. Boys
Basketball team, led by local Grade
12 student Brett Warkentin, has once
again gone undefeated in league
action. For the second year running,
the NAVS have secured home court
advantage throughout the playoffs,
and will host the 2017 SOSSA championships.

Monday, February 27, 2017.
Our Sr. Girls Volleyball team have done
very well in the NRHSAA D2 league.
Fielding a team of mostly junior players,
the NAVS have battled in every
game and will enter the playoffs with
high hopes of making it to the championship
game. Led by senior Kim Mak,
the NAVS are coming together at the
right time and, under the watchful eyes
of Coaches Peters, Baird, and Vos, are
looking forward to a very rich future.
Swimming has once again done the impossible.
NCC will send two swimmers
to OFSAA in March after securing two
gold medals and two 2nd place finishes
at the recent SOSSA championships.
Swimmers Hollie Warkentin and Gabby
Studebaker will challenge for provincial
golds March 7-8, 2017 in Windsor.
One of our 2016/17 departmental
focuses has been applying ministry
to our sports. I can proudly say our
NCC student-athletes have served the
kingdom well. Led by our great group
of coaches, our teams can regularly be
seen in prayer with other teams and in
discussions at practices about the character
a Christian athlete displays while
in uniform and out.
Rounding out our winter sports review
is our Jr. Boys Basketball squad. The
boys are just one win away from qualifying
for the playoffs in what can be
viewed as a highly successful season.
Playing in a very hard, NRHSAA D1
league, the NAVS, led by local standout
Neil Wangler, have challenged
in every contest - a testament to the
coaching pedigree of NCC alum DJ
Warkentin.
In closing, I would like to thank all of
our dedicated parents, fans, and supporters.
Our student-athletes are some
of the very best to take the courts,
fields, and water in all of Ontario and
we sure are proud of them.
