Food
The 5 A DAY campaign is based on advice
from the World Health Organization which
recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit
and vegetables a day to lower the risk of serious
health problems, such as heart disease, stroke
and some cancers. One adult portion of fruit or
vegetables is 80g. Sweet potatoes, parsnips, swedes
and turnips do count towards your 5 A DAY, as do
pulses and lentils, but, sadly potatoes do not. One
tablespoon of dried fruit equals one portion, which
is great for boosting your early morning porridge!
Here, Nicci Gurr from Home Gurr’own
talks us through a day of recipes to ensure
you and your family munch your way
through your fruit and veg quota...
