'Panama Papers' media
consortium becomes independent
LAHORE,
WASHINGTON, Feb 28: The
investigative reporting alliance
known for uncovering the massive
Panama Papers scandal has
become an independent entity, a
move that may help it expand
globally, the group said Monday.
The Washington-based
International Consortium of
Investigative Journalists has been
spun off the nonprofit Center for
Public Integrity, according to statements
from both organizations.
The ICIJ gained notoriety last
year by publishing leaked documents
from Panama that linked
some of the world s most powerful
leaders, including Russian
President Vladimir Putin, British
prime minister David Cameron and
others to unreported offshore companies.
"As of February 24, ICIJ is a
fully independent nonprofit news
organization, still headquartered in
Washington and still committed to
doing the best cross-border investigative
reporting in the world," its
statement said.
"We believe this new structure
will allow us to extend our global
reach and impact even farther and
build on the lessons we ve learned
and the successes we ve enjoyed."

LAHORE, Feb 28: Acquittal of Sharif family by
Accountability Court (AC) from Ittefaq Foundry reference
has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC)
A petition has been filed by a citizen Mehmood
Akhtar Naqvi in LHC taking the plea that Sharif family
was exonerated by AC in Ittefaq Foundry reference but
chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has
not filed appeal against acquittal.
The petitioner further took the ground that NAB
chairman has demonstrated malafide intent by not filing
appeal against exoneration of Sharif family.
He claimed Sharif family is still defaulter on
repayment of loans to National Bank of Pakistan.
Detailed record on acquittal of Sharif family be
sought, he prayed.
A female dancer demands
from IGP to give protection
PESHAWAR, Feb 28: A female dancer
from Lahore living a miserable life here in
Peshawar has alleged that Mazhar Hussain
has given life threat and demanded of the
IGP KPK to provide her protection.
“I have been in Peshawar for two years
after my brothers refused to accept me as
their sisters”, Sana narrated her ordeals
during a press conference here at Peshawar

'Taliban infiltrator'
aids police killing in
Helmand province
KABUL, Feb 28: At least 13
policemen were killed by
one of their own in
Afghanistan's southern
Helmand province.
A police source told the
BBC that an infiltrator from
the Taliban had allowed militants
into the police station
in the regional capital of
Lashkar Gah last night.
The infiltrator fled the
scene with the Taliban, he
said. A spokesperson for

placed the largest overseas
order for China’s homedeveloped

drones, the Xinhua news
agency has reported, in a
boost for the Chinese arms

Loong II was placed
before the next-generation
unmanned aerial vehicle
(UAV) successfully completed
its maiden flight,
Xinhua said late on
Monday, citing the system’s
developer Chengdu

order. The Wing Loong
II, which has wingspan of
more than 20 meters (65
