WELCOME The build-up to this year’s Festival has, as usual, provided a great array of stories to enjoy over the past few months and it’s not long now until those four very special days in March commence. Once again we will be hosting 28 championship races across the four days, with around 260,000 visitors coming through the gates, making The Festival the fourth biggest sporting event in the UK in terms of total customers. This will be my fifth Festival as Regional Director and, over this time, there have been a significant amount of changes to the site, with the £45-million redevelopment of the lower end of the racecourse completed in November, 2015. Since then, we have had a number of racedays to test and understand the new layout and I am really proud of what we have to offer here at Cheltenham. I am delighted that Caroline McNamara has agreed for this year’s National Hunt Chase to be named after her late husband, J T, who sadly passed away last summer, having been paralysed here at The Festival in a fall in 2013. All our thoughts will be with the family on Tuesday and it seems fitting that it is the National Hunt Chase, a race that he was so closely associated with during his riding career. Over the week we accredit more than 800 media, working for a range of publications, TV and radio stations. There are two media facilities available to the media: the Press Room and the Media Centre; both offer full WIFI provision and desks, together with food and drink facilities. If you have been accredited, then please ensure you know where your pass provides access to in advance of your visit (details are included in the letter). We thank you for your continued support of The Festival and Cheltenham Racecourse and Sophia, Simon and myself look forward to working with you in the build-up and over the four days.
