Food, drinks never
boring at either Tribes

With a regularly changing
menu and beer selection,
there always is something
to keep boredom at bay at
Tribes.
It is one of the ways
owner Niall Freyne tries to
make Tribes stick out from
other area restaurants.
“It’s our job to keep reintroducing
new things,” said
Freyne, who said he thinks
the vast majority of people
enjoy and even prefer trying
new things. “We don’t want
to be people to be so bored
because it’s the same old
menu all the time.”
With two locations —
Tribes Beer Company in
Mokena and Tribes Alehouse
in Tinley Park — and
a menu that changes roughly
three times a year, there
are always new foods and
new beers to try.
The current menu features
favorites such as battered
fish and fries ($16) (also
known as fish and chips),
served with hand-cut fries,
sweet peas, coleslaw and
tartar sauce; as well as the
chicken ’n biscuit sandwich
($12), featuring a lightly
breaded and sriracha-marinated
chicken breast, white
cheddar cheese, andouille,
and bacon gravy, all served
on a biscuit roll.
Freyne said the previous
menu did not have as many
shareable items, which he
said people really enjoy. So,
he brought back more of
them this time.

St. Patrick’s Day at Tribes

Owner Niall Freyne said
he has avoided big St. Patrick’s
Day celebrations at
the Tribes locations in Mokena
and Tinley Park to help
distinguish them from his
previous restaurant, Galway
Tribes Irish Pub in Frankfort.
Though the new locations
serve American fare
year round, Freyne said
this year they also will be
changing their tune for St.
Patrick’s Day, with live
music at the Tinley Park
location and Irish food specials
at both spots.
Freyne said Tribes will
be serving a full Irish
breakfast all day, followed
by favorites, like corned
beef and cabbage, shepherd’s
pie, Irish BLTs, Irish
egg rolls and maybe even
an Irish poutine. He said
the regular menu will be
available all day, as well.
Both locations will open a
hour early, at 10 a.m. instead
of 11 a.m., and the live music
will be starting in Tinley
Park at 11 a.m. with John
Condron, followed by a performance
by Chicago Reel.
Bagpipes & Drums of the
Emerald Society Chicago
Police Department will be
playing at 5 p.m. and New
Element, an Indiana-based
Celtic rock band, is to perform
at 7 p.m.
Tribes in Mokena is
slated to have a more laidback
atmosphere, with Irish
music on the jukebox, no
live music, but all the same
food specials.
Weather permitting,
Freyne said the patio will
be open at the Tinley Park
location for the festivities.
