ALTERNATIVE HOUSE
The Inspiration
As DJs, producers and long-term collectors of electronic music, we have had the good fortune to check out
what is vogue around the globe. And in 2009, it is all about the bass: Simple jacking grooves and bass-lines
that pin you to the wall with their astonishingly huge, uber-stereo, over -processed intensity.
Listen closely to the records produced by the current most hip dance producers and they all have these
elements in common.
When we teamed up to produce the Ghettoblaster record, which we signed to Instereo, we decided to both
archive our collections and create a slew of fresh sounds for a Loopmasters collection.
Here, we have assembled the building blocks for you to make produce of the most kick-ass sounds you’ve
probably ever had in your studio.
The Process
Drum Loops
Whether you are working on new tracks or remixes, we recommend that you start with a drum-loop. Try the full
loop in its entirety, or try mixing and matching elements from different loops.
All the drum loops and single hits have been beefed up through the use of valve and solid state compressors.
In lots of instances the drums have been treated to two or three rounds of compression and valve warmth, as
they just get better and better with each process.
We included plenty of weird and crazy effects to go with them so that they have plenty of choice for mixing up
the style and flavours from cutting-edge tech, minimal, electro, glow-stick-tastic ghetto-rave, baille-funk to
retro 80’s.
We made sure you get access to each component of every groove so it gives you more freedom to mix up and
create your own special blend without restriction.
You can either drop a loop onto the groove, or sample up a portion of a bass-line or one of our one-note
bass-hits.
If you need to alter bpm on any parts we strongly recommend using Ableton or Apple loops.
In Logic, for example, just dragging and dropping the audio onto your sequence does the job.
The BPM syncs, and you can choose whether or not to transpose. Continued...>

BassLines
We made a hell of a lot of bass lines for this collection. There were so many tasty sounds coming out of the
synths it was hard to know when to stop sometimes. We recorded everything in three keys, A, G and E. This
gives you more creative freedom to choose the key that sounds best for your track and makes it easier to mix
and match chunks from different riffs. We highly recommend chopping up little hits from the longer lines to use
as stabs and one shots as a little hit can go a long way once it’s in a sampler.
We made the decision to leave the side chaining to you as this will give you more options to make the groove
sit in your track the way you want to. We are sure many of you will already know how to do side chaining, but
for those who haven’t tried it yet, check out the video ‘how to side-chain’ we made especially for this. You can
get a lot of mileage from this technique, from adding an extra bit of bounce to all out shredding.
For the un-initiated, you side-chain the compressor to the kick drum, so that every time the kick sounds in your
groove, the bass-line is effectively silenced by extreme compression. Now sit back and listen to the futuristic
funk you have just created. Obviously you can adjust the attack, the release, the ratio and the threshold to suit
the groove and sound, but do have a go at the extreme settings, you might like them.
Synth lines
95% of the synth sounds in this collection originate from hardware, either analogue or digital.
We run everything through a selection of outboard processing on the way in to the computer. Synths like the
Nord G2 sound so much better once they have been warmed up by the valve circuits of the Culture Vulture and
Phoenix.
It’s the best of both worlds. The Fatso is also excellent for this job and takes out a lot of the harsh top end and
thickens up the bottom end of bass and lead lines. This makes it so much easier to slot them straight in to a
mix, there’s no struggle with EQing and compression as they sound deliciously fat from the off.
There’s a bit of everything here, from pure analogue goodness of the Moogs, Future Retro XS and vintage
Roland synths, to the hi-tech sounds of the Nord, rich FM pads and lo-fi madness of the home made Sid Synth.
The Spice
As producers and remixers, it’s essential to have a huge supply of sonic effects, hits, rises, impacts, vocal
effects, glitch tools etc at your disposal so that you don’t waste any time on the job.
We’ve included tonnes of specially made stuff as well as some of the tried and tested killers from our private
collections. We’re sure that the new material is killer too as we’ve already started using it in our latest projects
and remixes. Make sure you check out all the sub folders of bass stabs, atmosphere’s, retro game noises,
effect hits, glitch percussion as there’s some pretty unusual and wild stuff lurking deep inside.
Above all enjoy, have fun, and be inspired and know that we’re listening out for your future hits.
Every care has been taken to ensure that you can start using these samples easily in your productions, but
you may find the following notes useful.
that you are looking for in the easily navigable folder structures
Stylus RMX Users
the “Import Rex Files” button on your sage converter found in the Spectrasonics folder on your hard drive.
Wait for the sage converter to finish.
To Play: Open up an instance of RMX within your sequencer.
the DVD you have purchased, Halion will then find the samples for the patch.
If you wish you can then resave the patch so you will not have to repeat this procedure.

ARTIST SERIES
We have worked hard on the Artist Series concept using our knowledge and experience in the sampling
market, listening to our customers and looking at where the market is now and where it is likely to be
heading over the coming years and we think this is a concept that will be hard to beat, bringing the
sounds from the studios of some of the most well respected artists and producers to the desktops of the
musicians of tomorrow.
We want to combine the knowledge and experience we have gained to bring a great value series of
inspirational sample libraries to the masses, using the full width of our distribution base to make this the
biggest selling sampling series ever. We can’t do this on our own though and this is why we are working with
labels such as Global Underground with the above challenge in mind.
We have short-listed a number of what we consider to be some of the most influential producers and
artists of our generation, whom we feel have something to give back to the legacy of fans who respect their
production styles, and who more importantly have the ability to produce world class libraries for the ever
knowledgeable and sample hungry customers that we supply.
