RULES (Respect others. Respect materials. Be productive.)
• The library is a place for reading and research. Courteous behavior is expected at all times.
Inappropriate behavior will be reported to the Dean.
• Food and beverages, including water, are not permitted in the library.
• Students may work quietly together at tables, with a limit of four per table. If talking becomes
loud or disruptive, students will be separated.
• Laptop screens must be visible to the staff at all times. Gaming, chatting, and instant messaging
are not permitted and will result in the removal of computer privileges. Emailing is permitted
for school related purposes only.
• Use of cell phones or headphones is not permitted inside the library.
ESL: English as a Second Language Program
International students at Kiski have ample opportunities to improve their English skills in conversation,
in writing, and in reading. Experience has shown that a student’s own interest and willingness to work
hard often makes the critical difference for him in mastering the intricacies of English writing and
speech. To promote English language proficiency, Kiski asks international students whose native
language is not English to speak English in all “common” areas of the campus (in class, at meals, in
sports, in the snack bar and outdoors). Students sometimes find this request a bit challenging at first,
but soon are amazed by how well they begin to master English.
International students also benefit from their contact with fellow international students and Kiski
faculty with international experience. They can and should join the International Club, which is a very
lively organization at Kiski.
International students are guided through the process of college selection and application by Kiski’s
College Counselor. The college counselor advises on appropriate times for taking the TOEFL (Test of
English as a Foreign Language). The College Counselor also handles the registration forms for the
TOEFL Test, arranges transportation to test sites, and interprets the results.

The Joseph H. Millar Award in English, The English as a Second Language Award, Excellence in Science, The
Zachary J. Vlahos Award in History, The Carl L. Arnold Award in Mathematics, Excellence in French,
Excellence in Spanish, The Eugene L. Biddle Award in Chemistry, Physics Teachers of America Award,
Excellence in Psychology, The D. Allison McDowell Award, The Music Award, The Drama Award, The Art
Award, The Photography Award
The Humanities and Social Sciences Award is attained by a member of the junior class in recognition
of outstanding academic achievement and superior intellectual promise in the Humanities and Social
Sciences.
The Bausch and Lomb Award is given to that member of the junior class in recognition of outstanding
academic achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science.
The Kodak Young Leaders Award is presented to a member of the junior class who has shown
outstanding school leadership as well as academic achievement.
The Rennselaer Medal is awarded to that member of the junior class who is an outstanding student in
mathematics and science. The recipient should demonstrate potential for success in a science or
technology-oriented profession.
