3.3 retail Business hours<br />
Shops are generally open from 9 am until 6 pm in Austria; supermarkets open at 7.30 am and close<br />
partly at 7 or even 8 pm. Some shopping centres have also longer opening hours.<br />
Shops are closed on Sundays. In larger cities you can however go shopping in supermarkets located<br />
at the railway stations for instance. You can also buy foodstuffs at many petrol stations on Sundays<br />
and holidays.<br />
You can pay by debit card (Bankomatkarte) or credit card in most large shops, such as supermarkets.<br />
3.4 opening a Bank account<br />
You are generally required to present valid identification with photo (passport, personal ID or a driver’s<br />
license) in order to open a current account (an account to which your salary is paid “Gehaltskonto”).<br />

3.5 motor vehicles<br />
You must always carry a reflective safety vest in fluorescent yellow or orange, a breakdown triangle<br />
and vehicle first-aid case. Vehicle operators are to ensure that children of age under fourteen are<br />
appropriately securely seated in the vehicle.<br />
Austrian motorways are subject to toll fees, the required motorway vignette can be purchased at<br />
motorway service stations and newsagents/tobacconists (Trafik).<br />

3.5.1 driving license<br />
Driver’s licenses which have been issued in other EU/EEA countries are also valid in Austria. You<br />
must report every change of address (primary residence address, Hauptwohnsitz) to the authority<br />
responsible for the area of your principal residence. The following applies to Swiss Citizens: the<br />
driver’s license must be reissued by the competent regional district administrative authority or the<br />
Federal Police Headquarters (Bundespolizeidirektion). The prerequisite of reissue is a completed<br />
examination by a public health officer (Amtsarzt).<br />
