PTR Master of Tennis
Junior Development
A First in USA Coach Education
For the first time in the United States, an extensive training program
has been developed for tennis teachers and coaches to be qualified
to work with juniors ages 4-16.
The Master of Tennis - Junior Development program content is designed
to help coaches gain the knowledge, skills and abilities to develop
high quality programs that encourage and enable young players
to choose tennis as their preferred sport. The high standards of the
program will be mirrored in the high standards of the participants.
There are specific requirements to apply and be accepted for this
prestigious qualification. It is open to PTR members who hold a Professional
rating in PTR Junior Development basic certification.
The program is divided into two modules that take into consideration
a full time work schedule. The program consists of 18 different, but
linked, courses in a unique combination of online learning and home
study, as well as practical on court learning in small groups of fellow
professionals. With this format, participants will benefit from studying at their own pace, and have the opportunity to
interact with their peers on court. The program can be completed in as few as nine months or take as long as two
years. A maximum of 16 PTR Professionals will be accepted to each program.
The program concentrates on the factors that constitute high quality programming for juniors. It complements both
the USTA 10 and Under Tennis and the ITF’s Tennis 10s initiatives. The online education portions are accessed through
the PTR/Tennis LMS web platform. Each coach will be assigned a personal access code, so work can be completed
and stored for easy reference at any time. PTR Master of Tennis - Junior Development will be conducted on Hilton
Head Island in conjunction with the Junior Development Conference in February 2013, with Module 2 in September
or October 2013.
Assessment of coach performance in each of the 18 courses will be ongoing. The participants must successfully
complete all the competencies in every course to be awarded the qualification. Those who complete the program
will earn the rating of PTR Master of Tennis - Junior Development.
