16 MOCK FAMILY HISTORIAN Volume IV No. 2 Spring1995
LETTERS TO
Dear Barbara, Just received the latest MFH. The depth
of the articles by James P. [MockJ, Ron [Moore] and
Steve [Lapp] continues to absolutely astound me. I
don't know how they can find time to do a tenth of what
they manage to do. ...I've been working "on the road"
again splitting my time between NJ, CA (L.A.) and home
since last November. That really does crimp any hopes I
had for getting back into the family research business.
I'm not giving up though, so don't count me out for
coming up with something of interest one of these days.
In the meantime, thanks to all of you for you
dedication and commitment to making the MFH a truly
professional journal. Best regards,
Daniel G. Mock - Fort Wayne, IN
My apologies for having to be reminded that my
dues are over due. I can't think of a better $10 that I
spend during the year or anything I enjoy or look
forward to more than the "Mock Family Historian".
Thanks for all the hard work of those of youwho make
this publication possible.
Once again I was trying to cut down on the
memberships which come due at the beginning of the
year and YOU screwed it up. (or at least the ancestors
did]) I got the MFH this week and was certainly
surprised about the Mock of Harrison Co., IN. I have
recently been to Corydon which is the Co. Seat of
Harrison Co. I am the genealogist in the Bartholomew
Co. Clerk's office. Indiana's Co. Clerks hold the
marriage licences, wills, probate records, civil records &
other assorted records. One of the huge surprises that
came about in recent years was the fact that the local
road which I had always called "Mocksberry" Road is in
fact Mauxferry Road. This is supposed to be the oldest
road in Bartholomew Co. The road starts at Maucksport
on the Ohio River and that is where the Mock's Ferry
was and hence the name of the road and town. If
anyone is interested in doing research the John Hay
Museum in Salem is full of things about the area & the
Public Library and the courthouse in Corydon have lots
of info on Mock's as I kept stumbling across them when
doing research on my Davis & Willson families.
The second part of this letter is about my Mauch's. I
am enclosing a family tree of my Mauchs who I have
recently traced back to Germany. (Du nningen,
Wurtenberg, Germany). This info comes from the LDS
libraRy of Catholic records of this town - written in
Latin! Imagine my surprise when I found mention of the
death of a sister of my g. grandmother's in Danville, IL.
This family of Mauchs settled in Lafayette/ Tippacanoe
Co., IN in the 1860's. They were members of the
German Catholic Church, St. Boniface, and are buried in
St. Joseph's Old Catholic Cemetery. There was a huge
THE EDITOR
group of German Catholics who settled there in the
1850-60 era. My Grandfather married the daughter of a
family who came over in the 1840's & settled in S.E.
Indiana. Early Ancestor chart is as follows:
I - Christian Mauch m. 6 Aug 1760 Dunningen,
Wuertenberg, Germany Catherine Benzen
1.1 - Carl Joseph Mauch b. 1762 Germ.; d. 1827;
Dear Barbara, I guess I'll try one more year. Enclosed
please find my check for $10 to cover my dues for the
year 1995.
I do have one suggestion. Whydon't you print a list
of all members? Their names & addresses and the
names they are researching. This way we would have
access to meeting other allied families and
correspoinding with them personally. even pay for
the list of names & addresses and names they are
working on that you have. I correspond with a
Shipbaugh/Hollidayi Allbright whose grandmother's
was Mary Jane Mauk b. OH and was related to my
Clara Josephine "Josie" Mauk b. OH, died IN, so I
know there are people out there. Is your membership
that limited?
I have sent you information but I have not received
anything from you. Do you only correspond thru the
newsletter? Have you ever published your direct
ancestor chart and familygroup sheets for all to see how
far you have gone back on your line? I haven't been put
in touch with an allied family member but I am sure that
there are other people out there working on other
name's besides MOCK that have Mauk/ Mauck/
Mawk/Mack in their family line.
I felt when you took over that it would be a different
format, but from what 1 read each month it is the same.
I don't mean to be critical but I haven't received one
piece of information since I start subscribing to YOUR
clearing house newsletter and feel like I am wasting my
money.
