Managers Message
The response to the Inside Timarron Newsletter has been very
positive. As Homeowners, I encourage you to take ownership of this
newsletter. Make it into an instrument that will provide benefit in
the communication and community fostered by its publication. The
objective is for Inside Timarron to show up in your mailbox on a
monthly basis. Please share your thoughts and ideas concerning the
content. If you are interested in helping with the newsletter, please
call the office at 817-424-3027.
This issue is packed full of useful information. We have received
several calls wanting to know the standard Timarron color for the
wooden fences. The answer to that question is contained within.
Based on your CC&R’s there are no other acceptable colors for the
wooden fences! There are many outdoor activities in Colleyville and
Southlake, a Neighborhood Watch meeting, and Landscaping Tips but
most important I would like to know how well you do on the Wine
Quiz.
Please make note of the vacancies in the list of Delegates. George
Bernard Shaw said, “I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the
community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever
I can”. Consider this an invitation to serve your neighborhood. Take
a look at the vacancies. Could this could be you?
Homeowner’s Security Survey
If you are interested in making your home more secureAND saving
money on your homeowner’s insurance rates, we offer another free
service to residents:
For Safety - The Security Survey is an inspection conducted on
your home by a certified Crime Prevention Officer. The officer
checks the interior and exterior of your home and discusses how
better to secure the premises. The officer draws up a plan specific to
your home, making recommendations about subjects such as locks,
lighting, landscaping, etc.
For an Insurance Discount - Texas law allows for a 5% insurance
rate discount if the residence meets certain basic requirements. If
your home meets these requirements, the Crime Prevention Officer
submits a report to the Texas Insurance Board for your rate reduction.
If your home fails to meet the requirements, the officer gives you a
report indicating how to bring it up to the insurance standards.
That same Texas law allows for a 15% discount if the residence
meets the basic requirements as well as certain advanced requirements.
This level requires a monitored alarm system connected to specific
windows and doors in the home.
For further information on this service, contact Corporal Mike
Bedrich at 817.748.8137. Corporal Bedrich will get forms to you
to fill out in advance and set an appointment to meet at your home
for the inspection. Please be aware that the insurance discount is not
immediate - this is one government entity dealing with another!
Colleyville Police Department can also provide this service.
Please contact Officer Bill Hudgins at (817) 503-1230 or by email
at hudginsb@ci.colleyville.tx.us
Water the Lawn and Landscape:
How Often, How Long
By Dotty Woodson, Horticulture County Extension Agent,
Tarrant County
At the end of a hot, dry summer the most asked question is how
often and how long to water the landscape. There are two issues
about landscape water; quality and conservation. Water quality
is an issue because all drinking water for
north central Texas comes from
the lakes in and around Tarrant
County. That’s correct. All the
lakes are water reservoirs built
to collect and hold water to
provide Tarrant County with
drinking water. The water
providers in Tarrant County
clean the lake water and
provide all of us with very
clean safe drinking water.
Research of the lake water and lake water sources shows runoff
from home landscapes carry fertilizer, pesticide and soil into the
storm drains and then unfiltered into the lakes. Runoff occurs when
water is applied faster than the ground can absorb the water. As the
water quality in the lakes deteriorates, the cost to clean the water
goes higher and therefore our water bills increase. Proper water
application will reduce water contamination and conserve water.
As more homes are built, more water is required to keep
landscapes green and beautiful. More water is needed for
all the businesses to support all the people living in all
the new homes. For many years you have read and heard
about water conservation in the home with showers, toilets,
dishwashers and washing machines. We now have an entire
generation who grew up with low water use appliances.
Now we need to look at conserving water in the landscape.
There is nothing worse than reading about an issue that you
as an individual cannot do anything about. Everyone with home
landscaping can do something about these issues by applying
water, fertilizers and pesticides properly.
Here is what you can do:
• Plant native and adapted plants. These plants do not require
as much water, pesticides and fertilizer.
• Use irrigation water as efficiently as possible. Only water
when necessary. Make sure all water lands on soil.
• Only apply pesticides when necessary.
• Fertilize according to a soil test.
• Mulch all shrubs, flower and vegetables gardens.
For lists, pictures and descriptions of native and adapted
plants go to http://www.txsmartscape.com. If you do not
have Internet access, send a self-address stamped envelop
with your request to Extension Horticulture, 401 E. 8th St.
Fort Worth, TX 76102. The Texas SmartScape web site also
includes landscape design and maintenance instructions.
April—Spring is definitely here! We are planting flowers this
month, so changing your irrigation from the winter setting to the
spring setting is a must, especially for your flowers and grass. The
other bedding material should also be running about 3 times a week.
Club Corner
Ahh Choo! Don’t you just love Spring? Ahh Choo! The grass is
turning a bright, fresh green and the trees are budding. I don’t know
about you, but I much prefer these snowy flakes of the blossoms
floating in the air vs. those wet, cold ones we experienced in January!
I have to say – despite the allergies there’s something special about
Spring that makes me want to get out of the house and learn something
new. But what?
For 70 of our younger members here at Timarron Country Club
that something new has to do with golf. Participating in the Junior
Development Program starts young players out right. This great
program primarily focuses on FUN in the game of golf. At the same
time they’re learning about the etiquette and rules of the game as well
as working on their personal development in the sport.
Let me dissolve a myth – Timarron Country Club is not just about
golf. We have several members that don’t play golf. They’re here
for the pure FUN of getting together with friends and neighbors to
share a great meal or just a drink together. And for some that beverage
of choice is wine. I’m very impressed with the wine knowledge of
our members; and of our staff. Staff like our Director of Food &
Beverage, Mr. Greg Radomski with a little wine trivia for us all to
learn something new this Spring!
Medical care is too important
to leave to chance, so we’re
with Destination Health.
Imagine seeing your doctor when you need to, even today.
No waiting. Or having your doctor make a house call.
On your time, at your home.
At Destination Health, it’s about personal care. When
you’re sick, the doctor is available for you, 24/7/365.
Need a specialist? We’ll find you the best, set the
appointment and even go with you.
To us, it’s more than medical care, it’s caring made
personal. An annual retainer makes it all possible. It’s
a new approach to old-fashioned care where your well-
being is always important, but it’s never left to chance.
New patients now being accepted.
