➤ Aims and Goals
Sanitation-infrastructure is lacking in many parts of
Africa. Where available the technological means
very often fall short in fulfilling the requirements
regarding, capacity, performance and financial
affordability. But proven technologies and solutions
are available to achieve these goals and to
establish state-of-the-art wastewater treatment if
they are adapted to local requirements.
Adapted does not mean a compromise in quality or
performance of the equipment. It refers to smart
and environmentally sound methods which are
adapted to either existing but underperforming
sanitation infrastructure, or to specific local
conditions and needs.
Further optimized, these solutions can additionally
be used to safeguard our precious water resources
as they do not just give alternative options for the
wastewater treatment, but also offer the possibility
to recycle it as high quality service water. We
strongly believe, that wastewater should no longer
be viewed and treated as waste, but as a valuable
resource.
In the course of the seminar we want to introduce
state of the art solutions and show the participants
examples of already realized projects in other parts
of the world. A holistic, participatory approach will
be taken with the aim to strengthen prosperity and
well-being of the people of Africa. Goal of the
project is to
➤ gain a common understanding of the value of
water and wastewater,
➤ develop and continuously upgrade skills of
water professionals to build, operate and
administer water-infrastructure,
➤ establish water-infrastructure (water supply and
sanitation), tailored to the specific conditions on
site,
➤ build the capacity required to successfully
maintain and continuously upgrade waterinfrastructure
➤ Structure of the
seminar
➤ Participation will be free of charge.
➤ A series of lectures will be presented by water
professionals of academia and from industry,
both from Germany and from Africa.
➤ Amble time will be provided to discuss each of
the lectures, and to learn from each other.
➤ Invited are representatives of academia,
industry, consulting companies, municipalities
and governments.
➤ Conference language will be English.
➤ Lunch and refreshments will be served.
➤ Support
The workshop will be organized by HUBER SE, a
family owned, worldwide acting company
headquartered in Berching, Germany. The company
is specialized in the production and implementation
and service of devices for mechanical water and
wastewater treatment, including sieves,
membranes and appliances for the handling of
biosolids. In recent years the company got itself
involved in the field of decentralized sanitation and
reuse, based on the assumption that wastewater is
a valuable source of water, nutrients and energy.
Co-sponsors will be Most Rev. Gabriel A. A. Mante,
Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Jasikan, and Dr. Akissa
Bahri, International Water Management Institute at
Accra, Ghana, Technische Universität München
