This study has shown that <strong>the</strong> argument <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ten put forward by retailers that <strong>the</strong>ir customers need car<br />
access (presumably in order to carry <strong>the</strong> goods home), is simply not correct. While retailers in Khao San<br />
Rd were initially sceptical <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>pedestrianisati<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> project, few were opposed to extending <strong>the</strong> project<br />
<strong>on</strong>ce <strong>the</strong>y had experienced its benefits. In a city as dominated by cars as Bangkok, Khao San Rd has<br />
become an oasis for both foreigners <strong>and</strong> Thai people seeking refuge from <strong>the</strong> noise, dangers <strong>and</strong> polluti<strong>on</strong><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> cars.<br />
