Effects of pedestrianisation on the commercial and ... - Eco-Logica

This study has shown that the argument <strong>of</strong>ten put forward by retailers that their customers need car
access (presumably in order to carry the goods home), is simply not correct. While retailers in Khao San
Rd were initially sceptical <strong>of</strong> the <strong>pedestrianisation</strong> project, few were opposed to extending the project
once they had experienced its benefits. In a city as dominated by cars as Bangkok, Khao San Rd has
become an oasis for both foreigners and Thai people seeking refuge from the noise, dangers and pollution
<strong>of</strong> cars.
