FESTIVE
THIS APRIL
The Rivers and Spires Festival began in the wake
of destruction. In January 1999, an EF-5 tornado
ripped through the heart of downtown, leaving
the historic city in ruins. Citizens soon rallied behind the
rebuilding effort. In celebration of the historic downtown’s
revitalization efforts, the community decided to celebrate
with a city-wide Festival. Now, 13 years later, that dream
has evolved into an internationally award-winning event
with over six stages of entertainment and more than 100
artists performing over a three-day period. The best part
is, admission is FREE, as are most activities.
When you walk the streets of Rivers and Spires the sights
and sounds are exhilarating. There is truly something to do
for the whole family as your explore the 10 city blocks that
make up the Festival. Children love the Sports Zone and
Family Fun Zone. There are over 60 inflatables and loads
of vendors offering interactive activities and games. This
year, the Family Fun Zone will be taken over by Pirates!
Come dressed as your favorite swashbuckler and win
some great prizes.
You can even please your teenager with activities such as
Gig City Gaming and the brand-new Silent Disco. Gig City
Gaming will be held in the Underground, just off Franklin
Street. Over 80 gaming consoles will have multi-player
games running all day long. Prizes and competitions are
posted at riversandspires.com.
Men of all ages love the car shows and the Military
Appreciation Area. The Festival boasts two different car
shows each year. Memory Lane Cruisers brings classic cars
of all makes and models. Corvettes on the Cumberland will
have a wide range of Corvettes and Tri-Fives on display.
The Military Appreciation Area is home to several different
military displays, equipment, and activities. These
interactive displays will be on hand Friday night and all
day Saturday.
Ladies, you’ll love the variety that the Festival has
to offer. From Arts Galore to the Marketplace, there’s
shopping for every style. The Festival of Nations honors
the 26 countries that call Clarksville home with handson
demonstrations, cultural music and dance, as well as
culinary demonstrations. Make sure you stop by the Quilts
on the Cumberland too, inside Madison Street United
Methodist Church. Quilters will have their artwork is on
display all weekend long.
