In today’s high-performance environment, it is crucial to use strategic th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g, the ability to understand, critique and discuss strategy is an important<br />

skill to master. This skill is essential to lead<strong>in</strong>g organisations, <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g key decision makers, test<strong>in</strong>g entrepreneurial ideas, or whether you just want to<br />

strategy that are sound and implementable.<br />

But how do leaders create change and make a susta<strong>in</strong>able difference? One of the keys for effective leadership and susta<strong>in</strong>able change is to respect<br />

and understand the various perspectives of stakeholders, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the community. With<strong>in</strong> the eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry and role it is essential that you<br />

establish strong, credible and productive partnerships with stakeholders both <strong>in</strong>ternally and externally. By build<strong>in</strong>g these significant relationships,<br />

organisations are able to effectively <strong>in</strong>fluence and negotiate change to improve company performance.<br />

This <strong>in</strong>teractive workshop will draw upon practical tools and techniques, <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g participants to br<strong>in</strong>g a ‘strategic idea’ which they can then test with<strong>in</strong><br />

Alexandra is a chair, speaker and facilitator, with twenty years experience.<br />

A Chartered Professional Eng<strong>in</strong>eer, Alexandra has worked as senior executive <strong>in</strong> mult<strong>in</strong>ational companies develop<strong>in</strong>g strategy, improv<strong>in</strong>g performance<br />

and driv<strong>in</strong>g change. An expert <strong>in</strong> change management and susta<strong>in</strong>ability, she teaches at the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of<br />

New South Wales. She is a former Board Member of Eng<strong>in</strong>eers Australia, the peak organisation for Australian eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g professionals with 100,000<br />

members. Alexandra chairs the Eng<strong>in</strong>eers Australia committee focused on education and <strong>in</strong>novation. She is Manager Strategic Projects at NSW<br />

In the Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g field, women rema<strong>in</strong> underrepresented at senior leadership levels, despite <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g representation <strong>in</strong> operational roles. While there<br />

are certa<strong>in</strong>ly external factors affect<strong>in</strong>g this, sometimes the biggest obstacles can come from with<strong>in</strong>. In a traditionally male dom<strong>in</strong>ated <strong>in</strong>dustry, lack<br />

of support structures and unconscious bias can impact confidence when it comes to showcas<strong>in</strong>g leadership qualities, and aspir<strong>in</strong>g women leaders<br />

putt<strong>in</strong>g themselves on the front l<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

It is critical for great leaders to first focus on personal development and master the m<strong>in</strong>dset of courageous leadership. With this foundation <strong>in</strong> place,<br />

eng<strong>in</strong>eers aspir<strong>in</strong>g to leadership roles can develop their emotional <strong>in</strong>telligence, enabl<strong>in</strong>g them to become excellent communicators, which <strong>in</strong> turn<br />

professional services and health care. Author of Rules of the Game: <strong>Women</strong> <strong>in</strong> the Mascul<strong>in</strong>e Industries, which explores the realities for women <strong>in</strong> the<br />

construction, resource and eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustries. Teagan has provided an excellent resource for any woman who wants to get ahead <strong>in</strong> her career and<br />

for any man who wants to understand how they can make a positive impact on the experiences of women <strong>in</strong> the mascul<strong>in</strong>e workplace. Teagan also<br />

volunteers her time as Treasurer of the Diversity Practitioners Association <strong>in</strong> Brisbane and as a M<strong>in</strong>isterial Committee member for the School of Student<br />
