An agro-centric sustainable community that integrates housing<br />
units and agricultural harvest within an artificially climate controlled<br />
dome. It is primarily aimed at refugee farmers and millennials<br />
moving from warmer climates and looking to find cheaper<br />
housing solutions within the Accord community.<br />

The community acts as a sustainable coop system where residents<br />
can harvest, export and consume their own produce. The<br />
core of the circular agricultural dome consists of a farm to table<br />
restaurant for residents and visitors alike, accessible through<br />
a stair system from the ground. The stair offers a 360-degree<br />
view of the agricultural garden and the surrounding land.<br />

The dome is structurally arranged to maximize sun<br />
exposure to ensure maximum heat gain for the crops<br />
throughout the year. It is tilted at an angle placing<br />
housing units on the north side of the dome<br />
allowing for more heat gain on the south side.<br />
The interior of the dome follows a rigid circular<br />
formation permitting the rotation of the irrigation system<br />
suspended from the central structural member. The<br />
exterior of the dome consists of a secondary grid that<br />
follows a separate radial formation, weaving into the<br />
main agricultural center. In this manner living units are<br />
seamlessly integrated with the harvesting<br />
process to ensure a smooth transition of entry.<br />
The dome consists of clear ETFE panels fitted with<br />
photovoltaic cells that account for the energy required to<br />
maintain the temperature of the ground and control the<br />
climate of the dome. Furthermore, ground source heating<br />
is also maximized through geothermal energy and is stored<br />
for the winter months. This allows for crop production<br />
to be a stable form of income generation for the community.<br />

The units are designed around a modular formation<br />
creating a more flexible aspect to their arrangement.<br />
Each module acts as a different program, such as living<br />
room, workroom, bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms,<br />
which can be detached and connected based on<br />
the users requirements. A circulation path surrounds<br />
the units, allowing for accessibility within them, and<br />
a screen system reminiscent of Japanese screens<br />
allowing for privacy and flexibility within the units.<br />

Following the tragic events of 9/11, the city commissioned<br />
several architects to revitalise the area that had once been<br />
home to the Twin Towers. The World Trade Centre Performance<br />
Hall is a project that is reflective of the tragic events while<br />
conveying emotions of peace and hope. The facade consists of<br />
a series of projections that stimulate the viewer while the plaza<br />
allows pedestrians to mingle with the site and architecture<br />
dynamically. A series of spaces that are acoustically diversified<br />
based on program and function, such as the black box, the<br />
main concert hall and the performance hall are accessible to<br />
attendees. Furthermore, a series of installations are also placed<br />
inside the structure for visual and aural experiences that enhance<br />
the users perception of space and form.<br />

The performance hall consists of a series of installations that allow for<br />
sensory experiences. The first analysis is based on an installation on the<br />
first floor involving wood panels of different reflective materiality that<br />
enhance or dampen sounds played in the space. The surrounding area<br />
is susceptible to motion as a result of the present acoustical conditions.<br />

MOVEMENT OF PANELS<br />
The second installation is connected from the underground level of<br />
the performance hall to the plaza. It is a visual experience that enhances<br />
the user’s perception of depth of space. Thousands of led lights<br />
placed in clear tubes interact with the occupant using the escalator as<br />
they are moving up . The tubes move in a lateral motion adjusting the<br />
speed of motion of the user as he/she moves up/down, resulting in a<br />
broadened sense of space. The light installation aims to evoke feelings<br />
of hope and regeneration as part of the tragic events frollowing 9/11<br />

Situated in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, the graduate dormitory site<br />
is at the centre of the bustle of campus; placed within walking<br />
distance of transportation hubs such as the bus and subway<br />
station for easier travel. Apart from this, the corner site has<br />
one facade that overlooks Myrtle Avenue, a commercial street<br />
known for its restaurants and shops while the other facade<br />
faces Grand Avenue, known for its quiet residential status. Both<br />
these facades were addressed in a diverse manner, yet came<br />
together to create a distinct and coherent design that responds<br />
to site via program requirement, noise control and various environmental<br />
characteristics.<br />

Situated in 193-195 Stanton Street, the building was originally<br />
built in 1932, and was recently slated to be gutted and renovated<br />
floor by floor.This was an interesting project as it had a<br />
significant amount of design possibilities. It consists of a long<br />
courtyard at the entrance for which the client required grafitti<br />
and specific lighting fittings, new entrance door designs and<br />
material fittings. Furthermore, the corridors and lighting had to<br />
be completely redesigned with backlighting and wood panels<br />
against concrete walls. These aspects were designed and materials<br />
were sourced and budgeted accordingly.<br />
