Intercollegiate competition of Cado Alpha 2017<br />

Cado Alpha is an Intercollegiate<br />

competition that<br />

seeks to bring out the best<br />

among the cadets across<br />

the state, to the grounds<br />

of Alpha Arts and Science<br />

College (AASC). Organised<br />

by AASC of 1 (TN) Armoured<br />

Squadron NCC, this<br />

is an opportunity for cadets<br />

to exhibit their comradeship.<br />

This ultimate aim of<br />

“Cado Alpha” is to motivate<br />

the cadets to take part<br />

in the RDC, TSC, VSC and<br />

NSC held at New Delhi.<br />

On Feb 25th and 26th, Alpha<br />

NCC Unit [1 (TN) Armd<br />

Sqn NCC], organized Cado<br />

Alpha for the third consecutive<br />

year. Col. G. D. James,<br />

3rd Cado Alpha- 2017<br />

and delivered the inaugural<br />

address.<br />

Around 600 cadets from<br />

20 different colleges actively<br />

participated in this NCC<br />

Celebrates 98 th birth anniversary<br />

of DKP<br />

The 98 th birth anniversary of D.K Pattammal, who was<br />

renowned Carnatic musician and playback singer for<br />

film songs of many Indian languages, will be celebrated<br />

on <strong>March</strong> 26, at 6.15 p.m at Bharathiya Vidya Bavan<br />

(Mylapore, Chennai).<br />

Ms.Ranjani and Ms. Gayahthri will be honoured with<br />

D.K.Pattammal’s Birudhu and the title ‘Isaijyothi’.<br />

Nithyaree Mahadevan will be the guest of honour.<br />

Cancer detection camp for<br />

women on <strong>March</strong>.31<br />

Heart2Flower jointly with Bharath Vikas Parikshath,<br />

will be conducting free Cancer detection camp for poor<br />

women only, age 30 to 50 years.<br />

Impact of <strong>Porur</strong> <strong>Times</strong><br />

‘Thuvakkam’ an NGO<br />

based in Chennai conducted<br />

a drive to clean government<br />

higher secondary School in<br />

KK Nagar.<br />

Around 40 volunteers<br />

of the NGO participated<br />

in the drive through which<br />

they cleaned the school,<br />

removed the posters and<br />

painted the walls of the<br />

school and helped clearing<br />

encroachments on the<br />

nearby streets.<br />

The volunteers<br />

completed the work within<br />

12 hours. The task was<br />

carried out with the help of<br />

city police.<br />

One of the volunteers<br />

told this reporter that they<br />

take up such work from<br />

6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to avoid<br />

disturbances from various<br />

ways like traffic, noise etc.<br />

celebrated Annual college day<br />

Alpha Arts and Science College (<strong>Porur</strong>) its celebrated<br />

Annual college day on <strong>March</strong> 18 in it premises.<br />

The celebrations began with an invocation to the Lord Almighty.<br />

The presidential address by the chairperson of the Alpha Group of Institutions Dr.Mrs.<br />

Grace George was indeed very inspiring which kindled the importance of community<br />

leadership and also emphasized on value system.<br />

The guest of Honour for the day was Dr. Lakshmanasamy, Professor and Head,<br />

Department of Econometrics, University of Madras and University Representative on<br />

the Governing Body of Alpha Arts and Science College. He gave a valuable talk on<br />

Women Education, Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Development.<br />

The Chief Guest for the progamme was Ms.Selvi Ravindran, Additional General<br />

Manager, BHEL – Power Sector Southern Region, Chennai. She emphasized on<br />

Perseverance and how it could help one win over anything in life. She also insisted on<br />

being technically competent in today’s world and that the younger generation should<br />

be willing to take risks in life in order to achieve success. She made a special mention<br />

about Mr.Nandakumar, IRP, and currently Joint Commissioner of Income Tax. He also<br />

added that when we change our expectations, we change the world.<br />

Proficiency Prizes were distributed to students for Academic Excellence and cultural<br />

activities for taking the institution to the forefront. The release of the Magazine (NEN)<br />

took place as part of student activity.<br />

Inaugural of the Incense Group Pvt.Ltd, started by two students namely Saurav of III<br />

BT and Sriram of I BBA took place. The formal programmes came to an end with an<br />

appreciation to the Alpha ENACTUS Team which has won laurels for “2030 Global Void<br />

for Sustainable Entrepreneurship”.<br />

The day’s celebration fervor started after the formal session with the cultural<br />

programmes by students of various departments. The NRI dance by the NRI students<br />

of the college was an exceptional one which made the students know different cultures<br />

of the world. The College Day cultural programmes ended with the National Anthem.<br />

them and their children.<br />

pledge to avoid plastic<br />

and use of bio degradable<br />

products wherever<br />

possible.<br />
