and bull <strong>bait<strong>in</strong>g</strong> were banned <strong>in</strong> Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1835 107 . S<strong>in</strong>ce that time these and other forms <strong>of</strong> <strong>bait<strong>in</strong>g</strong> as well as animal<br />
fight<strong>in</strong>g events such as cock and dog fight<strong>in</strong>g have been banned <strong>in</strong> many other countries 108 .<br />
<strong>The</strong> harm<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>animals</strong> to provide traditional enterta<strong>in</strong>ment for people, for example, bullfight<strong>in</strong>g, dog fight<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
cock fight<strong>in</strong>g, bear <strong>bait<strong>in</strong>g</strong>, throw<strong>in</strong>g a donkey from a church tower are widely accepted as be<strong>in</strong>g examples <strong>of</strong><br />
unacceptable harms that should not be tolerated 109 . In most countries such acts would be prevented by the basic<br />
animal cruelty legislation.<br />
