Signs of Grace
By Laura Taylor and Kim Methvin
(In this class, women created their own
hand-painted signs to take home and enjoy.)
In John 8, a woman caught in the act of adultery
is brought to Jesus by her accusers. The world
saw her guilt and condemned her in shame. Jesus
called out her true identity in Him and the life she
could have if she would receive His grace against
the lies she had believed. His voice alone shut out
the voice of the accusers, and they left.
The woman was given the perfect gift of freedom to
be forgiven, and then called to life as a daughter of
Christ. Signs of Grace is a reflection of that work in
my (Laura’s) life: to be able to recognize the voice
of my Savior who calls me His own and to shut out
the lies of the enemy. As I create this truth on signs
that can be a declaration of His voice, my prayer is
that the art and the truth of who God is calling you
to be, be reflected in your life as you walk in your
true identity in Him.
Quiet Time: An Invitation to the Heart of God
By Debi Merry
I began making a daily quiet time with the Lord a
priority many years ago. I prayed for a deep, personal
time with God, wanting to experience the intimate
relationship with Him that I was observing in women
I admired. As I prayed and committed to spending
regular time with Him, He began to answer my
prayers: my time with Him becoming richer and more
personal. This fall, I began attending a class that
Marnie teaches called “Journey with Jesus.” There I
learned how to focus my quiet time on experiencing
God through His word, putting myself in the scripture.
I began to experience His character and to feel the
depth of God’s love for me: unconditional, individual,
and extravagant. This is not the head knowledge of
God. This is heart knowledge! God speaks deep in
my heart – encouraging, instructing, and teaching me
first-hand the many aspects of His personality and
His love. And I am reminded that the relationship I
want is His desire as well. He delights in us!
Sharing An Old Family Recipe
By Dea Marikian and Terri Jakl
Cut & Save!
In this hands-on cooking class, Dea and Terri
created a fun, home-like atmosphere where they
demonstrated how to prepare the unique and
delicious “Cheese Barags,” an old family recipe
of the Marikian family. Women were also given the
chance to experience working with the delicately
thin phyllo dough (used to make the Barags) and
then – best of all – to taste them!
Watchman Nee was quoted as saying, “Fellowship
means among other things that we are ready to
receive of Christ from others. Other believers
minister Christ to me, and I am ready to receive.”
Sharing Hearts, Sharing Lives was just that. A
fun-filled, encouraging evening of learning and
receiving from other women what the Lord had
given to them. Beyond doubt, fellowship is one of
the most beautiful ways God chooses to touch us.
Cheese Barags
1 lb. shredded pepper jack cheese
1 cup cottage cheese
8 o.z cream cheese, softened
Mix all ingredients (except Phyllo),
but mix the jack cheese in last.
Take out the phyllo dough and
cut in half across the length. Place
wax paper on top and a damp
cloth on top of that. It is important
to always keep phyllo dough
covered and damp.
Take a piece of phyllo dough
and brush it with butter. Fold
the top third toward the middle
and the bottom third toward the
middle, then butter again. Take a
Recipe makes 20-30 barags
2 eggs
3/4 cup dried parsley
Phyllo dough
teaspoon of filling (don’t over fill or
it will spill out) and place it on the
bottom left corner. Fold it like a
flag (diagram on back), tuck in the
end, and brush with butter.
Bake at 350° for 25-35 minutes.
Or freeze with wax paper
between the layers.
