Exit83 is a Busy Place By Jeff Taylor, Pastor of Student Ministries Exit83 hit the ground running with the turn of the new year. What I love most about our busyness is it is not just for the sake of having activities or giving the students something to do. Everything – from camps, to service projects, to game nights – all have a purpose and intentionally bring students to a deeper awareness of God, who He is calling them to be, and what living for Him can look like. We began in February with jr. high and high school winter camps. This was an opportunity for students to get out of the grind and “mess” of their daily routines and seek God. There were so many testimonies coming from the students of how God met them, reminded them of His presence, and are now walking in boldness toward what He is calling them to. Immediately following winter camp was 30 Hour Famine. This is an event we do each year with World Vision, to help bring awareness to the needs around the world. Many children die each year from preventable diseases, and 30 Hour Famine is an opportunity to not only be made aware, but to make a tangible impact. Part of the event is fundraising, and this year our students raised more $4,500 (a grant then quadrupled that amount)! Another facet of this event is fasting – getting a small glimpse of what hunger feels like and growing in our empathy for those who struggle with it daily. Our students and staff went 30 hours with no food. We came together at the church for a night of worship, prayer, and activities that helped us understand better the need around the world. After spending the night at the church, we went to Pacific Lifeline and Pacific Christian Center where we were able to serve those ministries in really tangible ways. The director of Pacific Christian Center said of our group, “We are so thankful for what you did today. What you accomplished would have taken our staff a month.” I am so grateful for the opportunity to see students growing in the passion and pursuit of God, and seeing all that God is doing in their lives…and He’s not done yet! Exit83 is Going to Rock the Boat By Jeff Taylor, Pastor of Student Ministries Rock the Boat 2017 It’s time for Exit83 to Rock the Boat! From June 11-16, 7 th -12 th graders will have an amazing opportunity to wakeboard, ski, tube, canoe, and lounge around in the water…but that’s not all! They will also get the experience of sleeping in tents, making s’mores around the campfire, and playing tons of fun games…but wait, there’s more! Rock the Boat has the primary mission (in the midst of all that fun) to give students the time and space to grow in their faith, invite God into their life and circumstances, and see how the Holy Spirit wants to move. There will be times of worship through music, teaching from God’s word, small group discussions, and more. Every year we see lives changed, hearts encouraged, and some of the greatest wipeouts you can imagine! The cost to attend Rock the Boat is $275. Spots are limited and we WILL sell out. GO Teams By Carol Hawkins, Missions Coordinator This is an exciting time when many from our LBF family are preparing to head out on short-term mission trips this summer. We have six teams currently meeting, training, and preparing for their cross-cultural experience. Here are the dates and locations where our teams will be heading: May 26-28: MEXICO Partnering with Baja Christian Ministries, this team will build safe houses for families, as well as participate in community outreach. June 18-24: NICARAGUA Partnering with Living Water International, this team will drill a well to provide clean water for the community, as well as educate in simple hygiene practices and share their faith. June 30-July 7: HONDURAS Partnering with Orphanage Emmanuel, this team will serve on the orphanage grounds through VBS, arts and crafts, music, help with farm work, and spending time with the precious children. July 3-8: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Partnering with Vision Trust and serving in a Christian School, this team will lead after school programs and share their faith. August 5-12: GUATEMALA Partnering with Living Water International, this team will drill a well to provide clean water. They will also educate the community in simple hygiene practices and share their faith. August 12-19: HAITI Partnering with Living Water International, this team will also drill a well and provide clean water and educate the community in hygiene practices and care. Each of these teams will be impacting the different communities they are serving with the love of Christ. Many lives will be encouraged by our teams – including our team members. Let’s remember that these teams are part of our LBF family and let’s keep them in prayer as they raise support and continue the process of preparing. Healthy Things continued from page 2. With two shuttles operating you should not have to wait more than a couple of minutes, and the shuttles will be operating constantly throughout the morning. The school is about one mile away from the church and will take about seven minutes to make the trip from the school to the church. (By the way, we can use more drivers. If you’d like to drive or know of someone that we can ask, contact mikeslocum@lbfchurch.com.) As you start using this shuttle, I’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts about how we can make it better. Thank you for being a little inconvenienced to make room for others as our church grows.
