PROFILE OF THE INDUSTRIAL SEZ<br />

SEI MANGKEI SEZ<br />

The Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is Indonesia’s pioneer in<br />

SEZ, the first SEZ to receive its operational status and was officially<br />

launched by President Joko Widodo officially on January 27 2015. Following<br />

a large amount of resources available in its region, Sei Mangkei SEZ is<br />

designed to focus on palm oil and rubber industries, producing fatty acid,<br />

fatty alcohol, surfactant, biodiesel, and biogas. The North Sumatran SEZ<br />

also provides zones for other sectors of industry including: logistics,<br />

energy, electronic, agriculture based industry, and tourism. The zone has<br />

attracted various investments, with PT Unilever currently leading the line<br />

Tanjung Api-Api SEZ holds the title as the largest SEZ in Indonesia. The<br />

2030 Hectares of area is aimed to mass-produce various products in the<br />

rubber, palm oil, and petrochemical industries. With land acquisition<br />

targeted to be complete by 2017, it is certain that investors will soon be<br />

flocking in following the footsteps of PT Indorama Synthetics Tbk. and PT<br />

DEX Indonesia who has brought in comprehensive business plans. Tanjung<br />

Api-Api SEZ is a great example of coordinated efforts by the Central<br />

government in SEZ development, with Palembang – Tanjung Api-Api<br />

National Road, Double-track Railway construction, Tanjung Api-Api Port,<br />

MALOY BATUTA TRANS KALIMANTAN SEZ<br />

The Maloy Batuta Trans Kalimantan (MBTK) SEZ is Kalimantan’s first<br />

Special Economic Zone. The Province has always been famous as its<br />

natural resources abundance, especially for its palm oil, mineral, and coal<br />

resources. The establishment of MBTK as a Special Economic Zone is<br />

dedicated to increase the utilization of these resources to the fullest. The<br />

MBTK SEZ primarily focuses on its palm oil industry and is expected to<br />

mass-produce high quality fatty acid, fatty alcohol, surfactant, biodiesel,<br />

and cooking oil for worldwide demand. The region will also be developing<br />

other industries; such as logistics and multi-industries, to act as a support<br />

PALU SEZ<br />

The Palu SEZ was proposed by the Mayor of Palu to be a catalyst in<br />

Indonesia’s nickel processing industry, cocoa industry, and seaweed<br />

industry. The zone is strategically located in Palu City, a mere 28<br />

kilometres away from Mutiara Airport, 15 kilometres to Palu City Center,<br />

and 500 metres to Pantoloan Port. Palu is currently on its 1st development<br />

phase, and has completed land acquisition process for an area of 77<br />

hectares using a public-private partnership scheme. To bolster its<br />

development, major infrastructures such as the Pantolan Port, Parigi Port<br />

and Flyover SEZ-Port are currently being developed and will be ready as<br />

BITUNG SEZ<br />

As one of the most strategic location in Indonesia, Bitung SEZ is suitable<br />

for an international maritime hub. The Special Economic Zone is centered<br />

on logistic-processing areas to support its main fishery industry, coconut<br />

processing industry, and pharmacy industry. Bitung SEZ is currently on its<br />

development phase, and has readied 9<strong>2.</strong>96 Hectares of land to be<br />

promoted to investors. A Main entrance road of 0.5 kilometres and an<br />

Administrator Office has been built inside the area - with land preparation<br />

TANJUNG LESUNG SEZ<br />

The Tanjung Lesung SEZ was proposed by PT. Banten West Java Tourism<br />

Development (BWJ) and received its operational status just one monther<br />

after Sei Mangkei SEZ. The zone is located at Pandeglang, Banten, a<br />

region known for its beautiful tourism attractions, which makes it only<br />

natural to develop its Tourism and Creative Economy activities. A wide<br />

variety of tourism attraction is currently already in the development<br />

process, including a Cruise and Marine Terminal by Pelindo II, Hunting<br />

Lodge and Shooting Range by Pigeon Barrels Ltd.UK, and Tanjung Lesung<br />

Digital World by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia. The Tanjung Lesung SEZ is<br />

MANDALIKA SEZ<br />

Boasting large untapped potential in tourism activities, the Region of<br />

Mandalika is not an unfamiliar tourist destination. Thus it is very much<br />

agreeable when PT Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC),<br />

who has been largely successful in the development of Bali, decided to<br />

propose Mandalila as a SEZ. The Special Economic Zone is focused on<br />

tourism and is currently on phase I of development. Land acquisition of an<br />

area of 1,035.67 hectares has been completed and road infrastructure is<br />

already available in the area. Its potential has attracted a growing list of<br />

investors. The Kuta Beach is planned to host executive international hotel<br />

chains: the Pullman Hotel and the Clubmed Hotel. Mandalika SEZ is<br />

currently in the most-wanted list of tourism investors in Indonesia.<br />

TANJUNG KELAYANG SEZ<br />

Tanjung Kelayang SEZ, Indonesia’s 9th SEZ, is located in the Sub-district<br />

Sijuk, District Belitung, Bangka Belitung Island Province, one of the 10<br />

national priority tourism destinations. The region has stunning tourist<br />

spots, and the development of SEZ is expected to attract 58,000 tourist<br />

annually into the region. This Special Economic Zone covers an area of<br />

324.4 hectares including its famous white sandy beaches and cluster of<br />

granite rocks, making it incomparable to other beaches. Tanjung Kelayang<br />

SEZ is designed to be environmental friendly and will promote<br />

The Morotai Region is blessed with an astounding geographical<br />

advantage. The region is passed by major tuna migration routes, which will<br />

significantly benefit its plans to lead in the fishery industries.<br />

Geostrategically, the Pitu Airport located in Morotai will support its<br />

masteplan as an international hub in East Indonesia. Morotai SEZ is also<br />

home to a vast amount of historical tourism attractions, including World<br />

War II relics. It is projected that the zone will attract foreign direct<br />

investors of up to IDR 6.8 Triliion for area development and IDR 30.44<br />

Trillion by 2025. The 1,101.76 Hectares of area is strongly supported by<br />

the Central Government with the development of the Pitu Airport, Daruba<br />
