La Semana Santa, que este año tiene lugar del 9 al 16 de abril, marca el inicio
de las fiestas de primavera en Sevilla. Desde el Domingo de Ramos hasta el de
Resurrección, la ciudad rememora la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de Cristo
a través de más de sesenta cofradías que procesionan por las calles de Sevilla
realizando su estación de penitencia, un itinerario que va desde su iglesia hasta
la llamada “carrera oficial” -que comienza en la plaza de La Campana y concluye
con la salida de la hermandad por la Puerta de Palos de la Catedral, en la Plaza
de la Virgen de los Reyes, y que puedes ver marcada en el mapa-, desde ahí,
inicia el recorrido de vuelta a su templo.
This year, the Holy Week is going to take place during the week of the 9th to
the 16th of April and it marks the beginning of the spring festivity period here
in Seville. From the Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) to the Resurrection
(Easter Sunday), our city recalls Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection
through an amount of seventy brotherhoods that perform their religious
processions in the Sevillian’ streets, making their stops and routes, which go
from the departure of the brotherhood at the Puerta de Palos in the Cathedral,
in Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes -you can see the mark on the map- and
from there, it starts the route back to their church.
Durante estos días Sevilla es una delicia; su aroma de azahar se mezcla con
el intenso olor a incienso, la gastronomía recupera recetas típicas de siempre
y el sonido de las zapatillas de los costaleros se funde con el de las marchas
procesionales, o si tienes suerte, con el de una saeta desgarradora.
During these days, Seville is just a delight: its orange blooms scent mixed with
the smell of incense; the gastronomy takes the occasion and gets some of the
traditional recipes, and the sound of the typical shoes worn by the costaleros
(people who carry the image) rejoins with the one of the religious processions,
and if you are lucky, with the one of the heartbreaking saetas (sacred songs).
