• Antimicrobial susceptibility testing should be performed on all clinically relevant bacteria isolated from CSF, so that the antibiotic therapy that was started immediately can be adjusted if necessary. Diagnosis (cont.) • Culture media used for bacterial culture of CSF are: • 5% sheep blood agar • Enriched chocolate agar • Enrichment broth (eg, thioglycolate) • Culture plates should be incubated in an atmosphere containing 5 to 10% CO2.
