CS / THINGS ARE LOOKING UP CS / JUNE DURRANT JUNE DURRANT STEPS UP AS ACTING PRINCIPAL Mark O Reilly Managing Director of Just Ask Scarlett, Senior Leadership Team members Jane Roper, Steven Downham-Clarke, June Durrant, Peter McCann and Sygenta’s Ian Nunn and Nigel Wright Deputy Principal June Durrant has stepped up to Acting Principal following the retirement of Peter McCann. Peter left the college in August after five years in the role. June will take the helm until a newly appointed Principal takes up their post in around spring 2017. Vice Principal Melanie Brooke will deputise for June where appropriate and will take on additional duties for this interim period. June has a great passion for further education, and believes the college mission statement “creating opportunity, changing lives” really sums up what FE means to her. June has developed a particular passion for working with employers to provide the training they really need that has a tangible effect on their business. And she firmly believes that getting that right then leads to great sustainable employment opportunities for students. June added: “I truly believe further education prepares people for the realities of work and the independence of mind for further, higher level study. “I really want to use my time as Acting Principal to build on the great work Peter McCann did to put the college at the heart of the community.” Born and raised in Leicestershire, June moved to Yorkshire 32 years ago. June has worked in the further education (FE) sector for the last 30 years, 18 years at Bradford College and then 12 years at Kirklees College, formerly known as Huddersfield Technical College. June is actually an alumna from Huddersfield Technical College where she studied A level Biology in 1986, before gaining a BA Honours from Bradford University followed by a PGCE from Huddersfield University. In the second year of June’s university degree, she was identified as dyslexic and June remarks on that being a turning point for her, one she has never looked back from.
