It was an eventful back to school season for École St. Cecilia
School this fall.
St. Cecilia kicked off the school year with a highly attended back
to school BBQ. Parents were able to meet their child’s teacher
and St. Cecilia families were able to reconnect after a long
summer.
In September, Summit Kids launched their new Out-of-School
campus at St. Cecilia to provide quality before and after school
care for our students. After an extensive search for an out-ofschool
care provider, St. Cecilia chose Summit Kids. They pride
themselves on offering a nurturing environment, innovative
learning opportunities and enriched programming for the
students in their care. Summit Kids offers a variety of programs
for students from kindergarten to grade six from the hours of
7:00am to 6:00pm. For more information, visit their website at
This fall École St. Cecilia School entered its second year with
the Hockey Canada Skills Academy. The program is being
offered to all students from Grades 4-6 regardless of skill and
involves two on-ice sessions and on dry land training session
per week. The goal of the program is to develop leadership
skills, promote physical activity and to encourage each student
to grow academically and athletically. St. Cecilia is the first
Catholic French Immersion elementary school in Calgary to
offer the program.
With a start like this, the 2012-2013 school year promises to be
another rewarding year for the students and families of École St.
Cecilia School.
During the month of October, Mapleridge Cooperative
Preschool celebrated a spook-tacular Halloween Party. The
wonderful costumes, yummy treats, fun games and crafts made
it a great success. Thank you to everyone who helped out.
Also, the four-year- olds got lost and eventually found while
navigating their way through the giant corn labyrinths at The
Calgary Corn Maze. They enjoyed jumping on giant bouncy
heading home on the big yellow school bus.
This month at MCP, the four-year-olds will enter the amazing
world of dinosaurs, while the three-year-olds will be exploring
colours and shapes. We have planned another fieldtrip for the
4-year-old classes to visit Fish Creek Library. The children will
learn about good library manners, where to find books, and
how to borrow books.
Each November, the students of Mapleridge Cooperative
Preschool receive a customized school t-shirt that they printed
their names on. Students proudly wear it to school and on
special fieldtrips. It also makes a treasured keepsake. Mrs.
Killam looks fabulous in her t-shirt too!
We would like to thank all the families
who took part in our annual pumpkin carving night. We had a
fantastic time making spooky and kooky jack-o-lanterns.
November is going to be a zoo as our students learn all about
animals. Our four year olds will be talking about animals that
live in the jungle, in the water, in the cold, and in the forest.
They will be making lions, monkeys, whales, penguins, polar
bears, and owls, exploring animal tracks and leaning about
hibernation.
Our three year olds will be having fun with farm animals and
pets. They will be making sheep, pigs, mice, fish, and a turtle as
well as learning about how to take care of cats and dogs.
Spaces are available in our afternoon programs as well as
two spaces in our morning three year old class. For more
information, please visit our website at willowparkpreschool.
