EDITORIAL<br />

There is a wren that sings outside our office window. Despite his<br />
tiny size his song fills the air, drowning out the ever-rumbling<br />
New England Street traffic. I’m not sure that this most urban of<br />
corridors is really worth singing about but he clearly thinks that it<br />
is and I admire his tenacity. He reminds me of the importance of<br />
singing your own song. And having the freedom to do so.<br />
Of course, <strong>Brighton</strong> is a very free place, in all kinds of ways.<br />
Freedom of thought and speech are central tenets of the city and<br />
this month the whole place becomes a showcase of their most<br />
eloquent expression – the arts. Hundreds of guest writers, poets and performers will join our<br />
own resident creative ranks and, with events from Whitehawk to Hangleton, and performances<br />
in Shoreham Harbour and up on the Downs, the voices will be coming from - and reaching - a<br />
wider audience than ever before.<br />
So, it’s even more likely than usual that you’ll be accosted in the street by someone with a story<br />
to tell you, and there’ll be poets on parade, and performances in pubs, parks and other more<br />
unexpected places. Voices will be coming at you from all directions. All that you need to do is<br />
listen. And then sing your own song.<br />
