Brighton Fringe is not about food, but even so, there’s bags of it coming along
for the ride. There’s comedy from George Egg - Anarchist Cook (The Warren,
7th, 24th, 28th & 29th) and Dave Chawner, whose show C’est La Vegan
runs for free at The Laughing Horse each weekend. In theatre, we have Cracked
Tiles (24-28th), set in a fading fast food joint. There’s a special edition Brighton
Food Tour, masterclasses from Curry Leaf Café at their Kemptown restaurant, and La Llorna, a site-specific
Mexican ghost story at Preston Manor that comes replete with street food. [brightonfringe.org]
Which reminds me, La Choza are hosting a ‘Chilli Cousins’ dinner in aid of FareShare Sussex on the 22nd.
Brighton Food Festival returns for the Spring Harvest from 18-29th. Lots to do again this year, including a
promising pop-up on 23rd - just a 13-course Swedish feast from chef Tom Griffiths, in collaboration with Linus
Palm at Etch. Then we have Mixology Group’s Brighton Cocktail Week (18-28th), Butler’s English Wine
Festival (29th) and the ever-popular Sussex and the World Weekend (27th-29th).
In other news, hooray for Chilli Pickle, who plan to open four new sites. The West Hill Tavern is re-opening,
as is the Evening Star on Surrey Street, newly refurbished. The Crescent on Clifton Hill has a new executive
chef. Last of all: if you haven’t tried the Troll’s Pantry Hash House on Trafalgar St or Longhouse Coffee on
York Place yet, go, go! Chloë King
