We had tons of fun at our annual Mardi Gras “Krewe of Westheimer Lakes Rascals” Parade and Party. Entertainment included DJ Roly, 

a parade, games, crafts, moonwalk, face painting and more at the Westheimer Lakes North Clubhouse.

CONGRATULATIONS TO WESTHEIMER LAKES RESIDENT 

NATALIA MARTIN FOR BRINGING A TOUCH OF ROYALTY 

TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD! 

Miss Martin was crowned “Junior Miss 

Fulshear” and “Most Beautiful Eyes” at 

the annual Miss Fulshear Pageant held 

March 25, 2017 at Huggins Elementary. 

Competition divisions were Little Miss, 

Young Miss, Junior Miss and Miss. Contestants 

ranging from age 3-18 and 

completed in Beauty, Photo, Talent and 

Interview categories. 

Held by the City of Fulshear, under 

the direction of Nicole Saenz, the 

pageant helps build confidence, poise 

and develop a sense of pride in the 

city with various community service 

project. Mayor Jeff. W. Roberts and 

Councilwoman Lauren Ashley were 

in attendance and participated in the 

coronation ceremony. 

During the talent portion of the competition, Miss Martin performed the 

French aria, “Habanera” from the famed opera, “Carmen” by Georges Bizet. 

Martin is an active 6 th grader and AP Honor Roll student. In addition, 

Martin is a two-time LCISD Honor Choir member, TCDA State Honor Choir 

member, a member of her school choir and dance team, a three-time 

HLSR Art Award recipient, UIL Oral Reading medalist and an advocate 

against Distracted Driving. 

Earlier this year, she was cast in the Fulshear High School production 

of “Oliver” and this Spring, she will play the role of “Agwe, Goddess of 

Water” in an upcoming production of “Once Upon This Island, Jr” a 

one-act musical with a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by 

Stephen Flaherty.

STOP THAT BARKING! 

Dogs left alone all day get bored and restless and many find relief in 

barking. Some respond noisily to any and all activity. But, nothing is 

as annoying as incessant barking-even for dog lovers. If your dog is a 

yapper or a yowler, please consider some of these bark-abatement ideas 

to keep the noise down in your area. Your neighbors will thank you! 

Training. Always the first recommendation for any behavioral problem! 

Help is as close as the Yellow Pages. Training not only helps your dog, 

you’ll be surprised how much it helps you, too. You may get some insight 

into why your dog barks so much or what it is trying to communicate. 

Citronella collars. A humane alternative to the electric-shock, anti-barking 

collar and costs about the same. Available on the web and in pet 

stores. 

Confinement. Sometimes simply bringing an outspoken dog indoors 

or confining it to a crate can cut down on the disturbance to neighbors. 

Reduce stimulus. Close drapes to help muffle street noise or leave a 

radio on to mask it. Disconnect telephones and doorbells before leaving 

your home if they upset your dog or make it bark.

We received information about recent actions of vandalism in the community 

and we encourage all the residents to make sure that all garage 

doors as well as vehicles are locked.

dedicated hotline for the residents at Westheimer Lakes in order to report

(including but not limited to broom, mop, vacuum cleaner, trash bags,

Occupancy Limit is no more than 60 persons, including the Resident. 

If alcohol is served, additional rates will apply: 

A contract must be entered into between S.E.A.L. Security Solutions, LLC 

and the responsible renting party. One courtesy officer will be required 

for a minimum of 4 hours at $32/hr. + tax. Resident must contact S.E.A.L. 

Security Solutions, LLC at 713-979-2388 to schedule security services 

for the event 2 weeks in advance. Payment will need to be collected no 

later than 7 days prior to the event. 

All persons must vacate the Facility no later than 11:45 PM. 

Please allow a minimum of one week prior to event for approval of 

contract by the Board of Directors. More time is required for processing 

and scheduling if alcohol is to be served.

RULES OF THE ROAD FOR WESTHEIMER LAKES AND 

WESTHEIMER LAKES NORTH 

This is a reminder... The operation of motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt 

bikes, golf carts, etc.) other than mowing equipment on pathways or 

trails maintained by the Association or any other Common Area within 

the community is not allowed. 

According to the Texas department of public safety: 

• ATV’s are not allowed on a street and an operator crossing a street 

must have a valid driver’s license. 

• Golf carts are not allowed to be operated on any roadways, sidewalks 

or common areas. This includes the Rec Center, SplashPad, lake areas 

and playgrounds. 

• Mopeds and motor assisted scooters are treated as regular bicycles. 

All vehicles used on roads must obey traffic laws including stop signs 

and speed limits. For additional information on this subject, go to www.

BOARD APPROVED COMMITTEES AND DESCRIPTIONS 

SOCIAL COMMITTEE 

Assist the community in creating, implementing and supporting 

events and activities. These events include, “Egg”stravaganza, Cookies 

with Santa and more! 

LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE 

The primary role is to support a social club for landscaping ideas, 

also known as the Garden Club. They are responsible for inviting 

horticulture guest speakers for community events and sharing a 

general interest in landscaping. They also assist with the Holiday 

Decoration Yard Contest. 

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE 

To assist the community in creating, implementing and supporting 

communication efforts including the newsletter, intranet and section 

leaders and block captains. They also assist with the Holiday 

Decoration Yard Contest. 

TRAFFIC/SAFETY COMMITTEE 

Assists with safety and awareness within the community, making 

recommendations to the Board for placement of stop signs and 

speed humps. 

ADOPT A SCHOOL COMMITTEE 

Provides recommendations to the Board of Directors for the donation 

of AAS funds to the schools within that community for educational 

school items, such as computers, library books, etc. These funds also 

may be allotted for enhancements within the community such as 

sidewalks, playground areas or other improvements that will benefit 

the students of the community.

Take responsibility for yourself and be a good neighbor! Keep our 

streets and neighborhood trash and litter free! Make it a habit, be a 

good neighbor and do your part! 

If each person did their own part (around the outside of their home 

including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what a 

better place this would be to live! 

A clean environment/neighborhood makes people feel good about 

themselves. They will keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. 

Others need to be continually reminded. It takes time to change

Hitting golf balls is meant for the golf course only. It can cause 

damage not only to personal property but to people as well. Please 

respect your neighbors and refrain from hitting golf balls inside the

No Trespassing on Residents Private Property 

There have been complaints about children crossing through residents’ 

private yards to get to the facilities. Please let children know 

that they cannot cross private property. If this should occur more 

than once, we ask homeowners’ to contact the proper authorities. 

BASKETBALL GOALS 

Basketball is a fun sport that many like to play. As a reminder, please 

make sure that all basketball goals are kept in an upright position 

in your driveway. Basketball goals should not be left in the street at 

anytime or left on the side of your home when not in use. Leaving 

Basketball goals in the street can be a nuisance to drivers in the 

community and a hazard should there be a need for an emergency 

vehicle to gain access to your street. Please note this is also a violation 

of deed restrictions and if you receive violation letters regarding 

this matter you could be sent to the attorney and be liable for those 

charges. 

UNWANTED SOLICITORS 

NO SOLICITING signs are posted throughout the entrances of the 

community. If this continues to be a growing issue at your residence 

and would like to place a NO SOLICITING sign in your yard, you may 

certainly do so. Please be sure that the sign is placed by your front 

door and place only (1) sign at your home. 

If you feel in danger and think the solicitor will be in the community 

long enough to call the authorities, we suggest you call the local 

Police Department. 

KEEP OUR LAKES CLEAN 

Please help us keep our community beautiful by NOT THROWING 

trash and debris around or into the lakes. In addition, there is NO 

SWIMMING, BOATING OR FISHING in the LAKES. 

NO DUMPING IN EMPTY LOTS 

Please help us keep our community clean by NOT DUMPING trash 

and debris onto empty lots. Neighbors please report violators and 

be ready to provide license plate number and photo or any other

Hours of operation are 24/7 Sunday thru Saturday. The gate attendant’s 

office is located at the entrance to Canyon Gate at Westheimer

CANYON GATE EZ TAG LANE ACCESS 

Please be patient when approaching the EZ Tag barrier arm and obey 

the signs. After stopping at the stop sign, proceed slowly and wait 

until the barrier arm opens fully. Bumping or hitting the barrier arm 

causes costly and unnecesary repairs to the Association. 

If there is a car in front of you, please remain at the stop sign until 

the car has gone through the arm and the arm is closed. The barrier 

arm closes after each vehicle every time. 

CANYON SPRINGS AND CANYON FALLS GATES 

The Canyon Springs and Canyon Falls Gates EZ Tag Entry lanes 

are for registered resident entry only via electronic EZ Tags (Harris 

County EZ TAG or Community fast pass tags for community use only). 

Electronic entry tags, including credit card size Access Cards and 

telephone home number registration services are available to all 

Canyon Springs and Canyon Falls residents at the SplashPad office 

Tuesday through Saturday. Call 832-222-2355 for more details. 

The entry will remain open during the day while sales and construction 

of new homes are in operation and gates will close at night. The 

gated areas may be accessed three (3) ways; with EZ Tag or fast pass 

tags, Access Card (reader is located at the dial up box in the left lane) 

or you may dial the home code on the telephone 10 key pad. If some- 


one is home to answer, access may then be granted. If you experience 

difficulty, the gate attendant’s office may be called by pressing #0001 

on the 10 keypad. 

In the event the gates do not open, please call the gate attendant and 

they can open the gate during the evening hours of 7:30 PM until 5 AM. 

Report all gate malfunctions to either 832-222-2650 or at 832-222-2355, 

if no one is available, please leave a message with your name, phone 

number and a brief description of the situation. The gate repairs will 

be called into the gate service company. 

DEED RESTRICTION PROCESS FOR GENERAL VIOLATIONS 

1 st letter: Notifying owner of violation and giving them (30 days) to cease 

and desist. (Legally no further letters can go out for this violation until 

the (30 days) has expired.) 

2 nd letter: After the (30 days) has expired from the 1 st letter a 2 nd letter 

notifying the owner of violation will be sent. (Please note that depending 

on what the violation is the board can send the account to the attorney 

when the (30 days) has expired from this letter.) 

3 rd letter: This letter is optional to the board and depending on what the 

violation is they do not always feel the need to send a 3 rd letter. 

At any time you feel that you get a letter that is not warranted, please 

feel free to contact First Service immediately to discuss at 713-932-1122.

Mother’s Day - A day for MOM 

Mother’s Day has its roots in ancient Greek festivals honoring Rhea, the Mother 

of the Gods. The modern American holiday officially began in 1914, when 

President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May a day to honor 

all the mothers. Here are some tips on celebrating Mother’s Day on May 14 th ! 

1. Deliver the classic Mother’s Day treat: breakfast in bed on an old-fashioned 

wicker tray table. Cook her favorite morning fare, mix her an 

eye-opening mimosa and tuck her favorite flowers into a small crystal 

vase. If the tray has slots on the sides, fill them with small presents (or 

big presents in small packages). 

2. Take your mother on a trip with Mother’s Day sandwiched in the middle. 

Make it as simple as a long weekend at the beach or as elaborate as 

a trip across the States. 

3. Surprise your mother with a visit if she lives far away. 

4. Deliver her present by way of a treasure hunt. Lead her on as long a 

trail as you think she’ll find amusing, with her present waiting at the end. 

5. Honor your mother’s memory if she’s no longer living. Send a donation

An event that brings the community and combat veterans and their 

families together. Registration is now open for the 13th Annual Impact 

a Hero 5K, one of Impact a Hero’s major fundraising events of the 

year. This year, the race will be held May 20, 2017 at the Constellation 

Field and will feature the traditional 5K Run/Walk/Wheel and Kids 1K 

beginning at 7 AM. 

The 5K registration is $25 for untimed and $35 for timed. The 5K wheel 

is $25. The Kids 1K is $15. Prices increase on May 13th and again on 

race day. Cash prizes will be awarded for the Men’s Open, Men’s Master, 

Women’s Open and Women’s Master categories. Top fundraisers will also 

be awarded prizes. Every registration will include an Impact a Hero 5K 

shirt, free fundraising page and entry to the post-race party.

The Titmouse Club

KATY ISD SUMMER BAND CAMP 

The fifteenth annual summer band camp, offered to next year’s 7 th , 

8 th and 9 th grade KISD band students, will be held at Tompkins High 

School from July 10 th to July 14 th . The camp will include daily section 

rehearsals, full band rehearsals and fun music based electives. Lunch 

is also part of the camp. The cost of the camp is $130 and will include a 

t-shirt if registered by June 5 th . All registrations after that date will need 

to include a late registration fee of $25 totaling $155. All registrations 

must be postmarked by Friday, June 23 rd . The camp concludes with 

the Grand Finale Concert on Friday morning at 9 AM. After the concert, 

those students wishing to extend the fun a little longer can join in the 

group’s optional trip to Typhoon Texas for an additional $35 (park 

admission, meal, bus transportation and drinks are included in price) 

for a total camp cost of $165 ($190 after June 5 th ). The KISD JH Summer 

Band Camp has been a huge success each year and we anticipate a 

large enrollment again this year. 

Camp participants will audition for summer band camp placement as 

soon as they arrive for the first day of camp. Students should prepare 

major scales and chromatic scales specific to the student’s instrument, 

as well as a band camp audition etude, which can be downloaded from 

the webpage below. Students will be ability grouped with the number of 

bands being determined by total enrollment for the camp. Registration 

Form, Audition materials and Travel/Emergency Treatment Consent 

Form can be downloaded by campers from the Katy ISD Fine Arts 

Webpage www.katyisd.org/dept/finearts. An email confirmation is 

sent out upon receipt of registration and follow up reminders from the

The camp provides an economical and convenient alternative to those 


who may not have had a chance to attend another band camp over the 

summer due to scheduling and/or costs. Participants will receive top 

quality instruction on their instruments from our own great KISD and

their annual field trip to the Taste of Texas Restaurant. Taste of Texas 

Restaurant owner, Nina Hendee hosted a luncheon for the Katy Area 

Retired Educators (KARE). The Taste of Texas opened in 1977 and 

has become a Houston landmark steakhouse. Hendee is an expert 

historian and has an amazing passion for Texas history. Her passion

NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH 2017 

National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is celebrated every 

May and is a declaration that encourages U.S. citizens to observe 

the month in a symbol of unity. NMAM honors the current and former 

members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those who have 

died in the pursuit of freedom. The month of May is characterized 

by six national observances which highlights the contributions of

Buttermilk 

Salad 

Ingredients: 

15.5 oz can Crushed Pineapple 

2 - 3 oz packages Peach Jell-O 

1 cup chopped Pecans 

2 cups Buttermilk 

8 oz carton Cool Whip 

Directions: 

In a medium saucepan, heat the undrained 

pineapple until it reaches a boil. Add the 

Jell-O and dissolve, stirring well. Allow 

the mixture to cool and then add the 

buttermilk. Continue to cool and fold in the 

Cool Whip. Mix thoroughly and congeal in a 

9” x 13” pan. 

Baked 

Onion Dip 

Ingredients: 

1 - 8 oz block of cream cheese 

1 bag frozen chopped onions 

1 cup mayonnaise 

1 cup shredded parmesan cheese 

Directions: 

Soften cream cheese in the microwave and 

mix the remaining ingredients. Bake at 350 

degrees for about 25-30 minutes or until 

bubbly and brown around the edges.

Vermicelli Salad 

1 (12oz.) package Vermicelli, cooked and drained 

4 Tbsp olive oil 

3 Tbsp lemon juice 

½ tsp Allspice 

On first day, combine cooked Vermicelli, olive oil, lemon juice and 

allspice. Cover and refrigerate oernight. 

2 cups mayonnaise 

1 bell pepper, chopped 

1 cup chopped celery 

½ cup chopped onion 

1- 4 oz jar pimiento 

1 (6-8oz) can pitted ripe olives chopped 

1- 5 oz can water chestnuts, drained and sliced 

Salt and pepper to taste 

Optional: 2½ cups canned ham, cooked chicken breast, shrimp, 

or cooked hamburger 

Second day, add the rest of the ingredients, mix well , 

and refrigerate.
