Pool registration 

Registration for the 2017 pool season will be held at the pool from 

on Saturday, May 20 th , 10 AM-2 PM. You must have a pool card to 

enter the pool area. If you are new to the subdivision and don’t have 

a card, bring proof of ownership (driver’s license with home address, 

electric bill, etc.) to receive your card. If you rent your home, the 

owner/landlord must apply for the card. If you have any outstanding 

violations or have not paid your annual dues, you are not allowed in 

the pool until these are cleared up. 

Pool cards 

Sydney Harbour uses electronic cards to admit you to the pool. You 

must be in good standing with the HOA to have an active pool card. 

DO NOT lend your card to anyone! If the HOA finds out, YOU can lose 

your pool privileges! 

You are allowed to bring 2 guests per family with you to the pool. 

Please be considerate and compliant so other homeowners have a 

place to sit. 

If there is a problem with your pool card, please call Sussan at 832-600- 

4142. The pool opens May 20 th at 10 AM with registration taking place 

from 10 AM to 2 PM at the pool. If you are renting, the homeowner 

must furnish you a pool card! NO CARDS will be issued to renters. 

Come join your neighbors on Saturday, May 20 th for the 

Sydney Harbour pool opening and ice cream social. The 

pool will open at 10 AM and ice cream will be served 

from 1 PM-3 PM. Music will be provided by Caribbean 

Rhythms DJ Services.

FRONT COVER PHOTOS WANTED! 

We are looking for great photos to use on the front cover of your 

newsletter! Pictures must be high quality (min 300 dpi). No cell phone 

photos allowed. Email photos for consideration to lorie@krenekprinting. 

com with the name of your subdivision, and any credits that should be 

published with your photo (such as a professional photographer.) Names 

of children and/or adults shown on the photo will be included by request 

only. By submitting your photo, you are giving permission to use your 

photo on the cover or inside your newsletter, as well as other Krenek 

Printing publications. 

Deadline for submission is the 5th of each month. The next due dates 

will be May 5th for the June 2017 publications, and June 5th for the 

July 2017 publications. 

PREPAYMENT OF ASSESSMENTS 

Do you hate when January 1 st comes around each year and you have to 

pay your annual assessments? Montage Community Services encourages 

homeowners to pre-pay their next year’s assessments throughout the 

year to help make it easier come January 1 st . There are no fees for this 

and you can set your own terms for prepayment. All you need to do is 

log on to https://newfirstpayments.com/link/montage. You will need the 

association ID, which is SHC and your account number. If you use the pay 

by check option, there are no charges for the bank. Or you can mail a check 

to Sydney Harbour, C/O Montage Community Services, 24200 Southwest 

Freeway Suite 402-260, Rosenberg TX 77471. 

HOA FEES 

Sydney Harbour is a beautiful place to live! We are a rare neighborhood that 

actually has access to our waterways. We are indeed a resort community 

and the cost of maintaining our neighborhood is high. All homeowners in 

Sydney Harbour are contracted to pay annual HOA fees. These fees are 

used to make any and all improvements that you see. 

Non-payment of HOA fees is a serious offense, which can resort in 

foreclosure of your property. It is also very costly for the homeowner 

involved. It is not the desire of the HOA Board of Directors or our 

management company to foreclose on any property. We understand that 

hardships come. We are very willing to work to set up a payment plan for 

those who need assistance. 

The first step we take in the collection of yearly fees is to send out a “209” 

letter. When you receive one of these letters, your fees have already gone 

up because interest and the cost of letter is being added to your balance. 

The second step will be a letter from our attorneys. At this point more 

interest is accrued and attorney fees are added. 

Step three is a certified letter delivered by a Constable. Again, interest, 

attorney fees and now law enforcement fees are added to your balance. 

Our last recourse in the collection process is to file for foreclosure on your 

property. 

We encourage those who need assistance to let us work with you. We will 

be happy to discuss a payment plan to suit your needs. Thank you for 

making Sydney Harbour such a special place to live. 

This is an added service to help better manage our community. 

ROUND-A-BOUTS 

SIMPLE RULES FOR 

USING A ROUNDABOUT 

The problem with round-a-bouts is a total lack of 

understanding for most of us American drivers. 

When approaching a yield sign, there are only 

three very simple rules to consider. 

1. The automobile already inside the intersection 

(or circle) has the right-of-way. 

2. The automobile reaching the yield sign first has the right to enter the 

intersection (or circle). 

3. When two or more vehicles approach a round-a-bout at the same time, 

you must give way to the vehicle on the left. Otherwise, it is first come-first 

serve. 

APPROVAL PROCESS FOR EXTERIOR IMPROVEMENT/ 

MODIFICATION APPLICATIONS IN SYDNEY HARBOUR 

With the arrival of spring, homeowners interested in spending more time 

outdoors will want to make improvements and/or modifications to their 

exterior property. The HOA Architectural Control Committee is responsible 

for reviewing and approving all applications before these changes are 

made. 

A quick review of the steps involved in submitting an application is as 

follows: 

1. Log In to the Sydney Harbour HOA website at http://sydneyharbourhoa. 

org/sl_login.php using your “User Name” and Password.” 

2. On the “HOME” page, select “Architectural Control” under the 

“Welcome” list to read a description of the application approval process.

3. Next select “Governing Documents” under the “Members” list to see a 

list of applicable documents. 

4. Next select “Architectural Guidelines/Improvement” to read a one-page 

instruction letter and a two-page list of instructions for completing an 

application. 

5. Return to the “Governing Documents” page and select “Architectural 

Guidelines Change Form” to find a blank form that can be completed 

with appropriate information and submitted along with any other 

required information required by the instruction letter and instruction 

list. Completed applications are be mailed or emailed to the appropriate 

address provided in the instruction letter. 

Please note that the “Governing Documents” page has several other 

documents to assist in an understanding of and reasons for the application 

approval process.

The shooting of Mallards in our lakes is prohibited by law and can cost you 

from $25 to $500. If the ducks are being a nuisance, scare them away with 

noise! DO NOT use a pellet gun or firearm!

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR 13 TH ANNUAL IMPACT A HERO 5K 

An event that brings the community and combat veterans and their families together. Registration is 

now open for the 13 th Annual Impact a Hero 5K, one of Impact a Hero’s major fundraising events of 

the year. This year, the race will be held May 20, 2017 at the Constellation Field and will feature the 

traditional 5K Run/Walk/Wheel and Kids 1K beginning at 7 AM. 

The 5K registration is $25 for untimed and $35 for timed. The 5K wheel is $25. The Kids 1K is $15. 

Prices increase on May 13 th and again on race day. Cash prizes will be awarded for the Men’s Open, 

Men’s Master, Women’s Open and Women’s Master categories. Top fundraisers will also be awarded 

prizes. Every registration will include an Impact a Hero 5K shirt, free fundraising page and entry

29 TH ANNUAL B. F. ADAM GOLF CLASSIC - May 11, 2017 

The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) will hold its 29 th Annual B. F. Adam Golf Classic at BlackHorse 

Golf Club on May 11, 2017. For the past 7 years, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, a Cy-Fair 

Educational Foundation Partner, has generously underwritten this tournament. Linebarger Goggan 

Blair & Sampson and IBI Group have been Platinum Sponsors for more than 10 years. One of the 

largest non-celebrity tournaments in the Houston area, the B.F. Adam Golf Classic is a prime example 

of our trustees and community business partners working together to raise scholarship funds for 

students of Cypress Fairbanks ISD. This tournament has successfully raised over 2.7 million dollars. 

CFEF was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to fund a scholarship for high school 

graduates in the area. Over the past 46 years, the Foundation has grown tremendously through the 

efforts of the Board of Trustees and the generosity of the Cy-Fair Community. The Foundation has 

awarded more than $7 million in scholarships to 1,400 graduating seniors. CFEF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit 

organization, all contributions are tax deductible, as allowed by the law.

CAMP CORNERSTONE IS THE PLACE TO BE THIS SUMMER 

Camp Cornerstone is a week-long camp sponsored by Cornerstone United Methodist Church 

and is for children ages 2 through the completion of 4 th grade. Children must be 2 by June 1, 

2017. Camp hours are 9:30 AM-1 PM. There are 3 sessions throughout the summer and you are 

invited to participate in any or all!

Our campus offers 3 day mini camps for our preschool and Kindergarten

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts will host summer camps and other 

activities to make this a fun-filled, artful summer for the entire community. 

Summer Camps 

Summer camps will be offered in June and July for ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 

18. Camps will center around themes of “Contemporary Art Through the 

Ages.” Each camp meets Monday through Friday from 9 AM to Noon at the 

Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Cost of the week-long camps is $140 for

to the museum are available for just $55. In collaboration with AAUW and

THE TITMOUSE CLUB 

The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 sponsored

ye, hear ye! Insomniac and C3 Presents shall 

bring forth the adventure of Middlelands, the

June 3 rd - The AIA Sandcastle Competition is 

a fund-raising event for AIA Houston and ArCH

Firms begin months in advance generating ideas,

This salad is a great way to use up any leftover kale

happy hour descends, add cucumber, walnut

chocolate, which are great for a quick energy and

PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL) 

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. 

That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities 

arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out 

how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. 

Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help 

prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long 

course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council 

for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s 

BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.

Onion Dip 

Ingredients: 

1 - 8 oz block of cream cheese 

1 bag frozen chopped onions 

1 cup mayonnaise 

1 cup shredded parmesan cheese 

Directions: 

Soften cream cheese in the microwave 

and mix the remaining ingredients. 

Bake at 350 degrees for about 

25-30 minutes or until bubbly and 

brown around the edges. 

Buttermilk 

Salad 

Ingredients: 

15.5 oz can Crushed Pineapple 

2 - 3 oz packages Peach Jell-O 

1 cup chopped Pecans 

2 cups Buttermilk 

8 oz carton Cool Whip 

Directions: 

In a medium saucepan, heat the 

undrained pineapple until it reaches a 

boil. Add the Jell-O and dissolve, stirring 

well. Allow the mixture to cool and then 

add the buttermilk. Continue to cool and 

fold in the Cool Whip. Mix thoroughly 

and congeal in a 9” x 13” pan.

This super yummy pasta salad was served at my parent’s retirement 

party this past weekend, and was a huge hit! My coworker, Janey 

Stults, hosted the party, and cooked every bit of the food served. Let 

me tell you, this lady can cook! I promise you will enjoy this salad as 

much as everyone at the party! Enjoy! 

PS: Although I’ve designated this as the Featured Recipe, the recipes 

across from this are from the party too. Yum! 

Vermicelli Salad 

1 (12oz.) package Vermicelli, cooked and drained 

4 Tbsp olive oil 

3 Tbsp lemon juice 

½ tsp Allspice 

On first day, combine cooked Vermicelli, olive oil, lemon 

juice and allspice. Cover and refrigerate oernight. 

2 cups mayonnaise 

1 bell pepper, chopped 

1 cup chopped celery 

½ cup chopped onion 

1- 4 oz jar pimiento 

1 (6-8oz) can pitted ripe olives chopped 

1- 5 oz can water chestnuts, drained and sliced 

Salt and pepper to taste 

Optional: 2½ cups canned ham, cooked chicken breast, 

shrimp, or cooked hamburger 

Second day, add the rest of the ingredients, mix well , 

and refrigerate.

MAY GARDENING TIPS 

Warm weather means our gardens and landscapes are growing fast. Here 

are some tasks to keep your landscape beautiful and productive: 

Flowers: Time to plant summer blooming perennials and annuals including 

plumbago, zinnias, angelonia, purslane, lobularia, sunflowers, yellow bells, 

pride of Barbados, duranta and bat-faced cuphea. 

Vegetables: May is a great time to plant, from seed or nursery plants, okra, 

sweet potatoes, cucumbers, winter squash, pumpkins, basil, peppers, 

lima beans, eggplant, garlic chives and Malabar greens. If you don’t want 

to dedicate an area of your yard, consider planting here and there in your 

flowerbeds. Edible landscaping is a popular new trend! 

Lawns: Water 1/2 to 1” of irrigation per week. A rain gauge or straight sided 

container (such as a tuna fish can) will help you know how long to run your 

irrigation system to apply 1/2”. 

Weeding: Hand pull or hoe weeds while they are still young or better yet, 

maintain a 3” layer of mulch in all vegetable and flowerbeds to deter weeds 

from getting a start. 

Pruning: Remove spent blooms on spring and summer annuals to promote 

new blooms. 

Fertilizing: Fertilize flowerbeds and vegetable gardens w/slow release 

organic fertilizer. 

Water: Deep soakings between rain events is better than frequent light 

sprinkling. 

Birds: Spring migration continues until mid-May. Clean bird feeders! 

Replace water in bird baths to avoid creating mosquito breeding spots.
