RISK + PERFORMANCE
7:00 PM > MCKIM BUILDING ROOFTOP 211 BANNATYNE > $20/25 door
Some say that art is ‘risk made visible.’ Spur challenges four Winnipeg-based artists to make risk
a reality, with a rooftop performance on top of the McKim Building. This penthouse performance
will be paired with local entrepreneurs, no strangers to risk themselves. Spurfesters will enjoy
samples of the latest local fare in beers and spirits.
Featuring
EUGENE BAFFOE, known in the community as GeNie is a street dancer from Montreal, Quebec.
He directs the Hip Hop dance crew B.O.S.S Dance Team (Built on Self Success) and the Dance
4 MS event. He has choreographed for 2 Blue bomber halftime shows and WE Day at the MTS
Centre. Recently, Eugene was selected by the National Ballet school to be 1 of 4 choreographers
to create the “Sharing Dance” routine for Canada’s 150th anniversary.
LISE MCMILLAN is an independent dance artist that has performed with companies and independent
choreographers from across Canada and abroad. Her own works have been presented
by Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers and Young Lungs Dance Exchange. Recent projects have
explored her French Canadian and Métis ancestry. She is the co-director of The Dance Post, an
organization serving Winnipeg’s dance milieu since 2015 and has her B.A Honours Degree in
Dance, and is a graduate of the Professional Program of The School of Contemporary Dancers.
Kissed by the Manitoban prairie skies and graced by its colourful fields, HAITIA brings back
old-fashioned melodies/harmonies and honest lyrics, with a touch of the winter melancholic
lullabies. Featuring Dana Waldies and Avery Penner, this duet will provide a flashback to the
soundtrack of your first festival kiss, twisted into a folk frenzy.
Since relocating to Canada in 2015 from Cape Town, South Africa, CISHA has established a reputation
performing at local events in Winnipeg, sharing the stage with local talents like Scribe,
Beatox, and Marisolle Negash. The young singer/songwriter draws inspiration from her African
roots, modern RnB, Hip-Hop, and Soul. Cisha remains in the same atmosphere of inspiration but
continues to be exposed to change.
